Green With It
I’ve had a few models in my time, and this particular model also posed for Objects in Mirror. Z posed for me sitting backwards on the chair, which left his lower body mostly in shadow. I used a soft green instead of peach to challenge myself to see shapes of light and dark rather than skin tones, using rich blues for his hair and the shadows. I think it gives him an ethereal air, reminding me of a fairy — with a glint of jealousy in his dark-rimmed eyes.
I was in love with the quinacridone burnt orange in Urgent Grounding, and I wanted to try to repeat that with a different sort of painting, so the background was that same rich yellow-orange. The shadowy aura was another pure tone, mixing richly to really offset the smooth, calm figure from the rough, chaotic background.
Green With It, oil on canvas, 18″x24″, $599 with free shipping. $60 of your money will go to charity, check out the sidebar to see who I’m donating to this month!
