Summer Rain

Summer Rain, abstract art by Amy Crook

Summer Rain by Amy Crook, $323

This piece owes its existence to Shannon Henry from Polymath Design Lab, who stayed with me a few weeks ago while she was attending a conference. She wanted to see how the salt crystals grew, so we picked a pen color and I set up a piece for her. Then, in her swag bag at the conference she got some nifty iridescent watercolor pans, and one of them matched perfectly with the salt formations, so after she left I finished up the piece with it.

We have a few more surprises up our sleeves, so keep an eye out for a little bit of awesome from the two of us.

Summer Rain, 7″x5″ mixed media on paper, $323, framed, with free shipping.

Iridescent paint is, as you can imagine, amazingly hard to photograph. This detail shot came out rather psychedelic when I was trying to get the colors even remotely correct.

This one’s a bit more realistic, with a soft shimmer gathering in the hills and valleys of the paper, light glinting off the salt crystals.

The framed photo ended up taking on the green end of the spectrum that the paint goes through, but you can see how the matte black really lets the paint and salt shine.
