4 Red & Blue Bookmarks by Amy Crook

4 Red & Blue Bookmarks by Amy Crook

4 fandoms, 4 characters, 4 colors! Loosely rendered black drawings with grey shading, colored in scribbled blue with touches of red. Sherlock’s got a blue scarf and red buttonhole, the eleventh Doctor has his blue TARDIS and red bow tie, the debonair 007 has a blue tie and pocket square with a red cherry in his drink, and Spock is in his regulation science blue with a red screen on his original series style tricorder.

The original art from these sketchy designs will be in the next bookmark sale on my list, if you fancy your very own, or you can pick up the set shown above at my Etsy shop.

Q. Holmes, a fan art comic by Amy Crook

Q. Holmes, a fan art comic by Amy Crook

The second of the silly sketch prompts, proving my friends deserve me, is the crossover known as Bondlock, wherein Bond’s Q is the third Holmes brother. I imagine he’s making that face because his big brothers are giving him crap about his fashion sense, though honestly being related to those two is cause enough.

The original was sold in last month’s Floating Gallery, but you can get cards at my Etsy shop, should you so desire. They frame beautifully, or so I’m told.

Kittenish by Amy Crook

Kittenish by Amy Crook

A while back I asked some friends for sketch prompts, and this is the first of three quite adorably silly suggestions I was given. After I sketched them, I couldn’t resist inking and coloring them, and so we have James Bond getting a face full of kitten fur from his Quartermaster.

Remember, real men head boop kittens.

The original was sold in September’s Floating Gallery, but you can get a card in my Etsy shop.

Drowned and Dreamt

Drowned and Dreamt, abstract art by Amy Crook

Drowned and Dreamt by Amy Crook

This gorgeously morbid piece of abstract art was inspired by the opening credits to Skyfall, and the colors and textures of the blood in the water. I used several washes to give the background its grainy fade of blue-green, and then two colors of opaque Japanese watercolors for the reds, and I’m quite pleased with the final effect.

Above, you can see the brightest reds and the way they interact with the green background where they’re thinner and more translucent. Below, you can see the piece in a frame, an eerie tribute to a visually stunning film.

007 & Q bookmarks by Amy Crook

007 & Q bookmarks by Amy Crook

These are already spoken for, but you can get them printed on bookmarks at my Etsy shop, along with the figures from Monday’s James Bond comic.

007 is in a classic pose with his little snub-nosed Walther and a knowing smirk, while Q’s got a tablet computer and his own little half-grin. According to IMDB, Bond is a mere inch taller than Q, but looking at them together in Skyfall I think Q’s hair makes it up through sheer messy floof.

Exploding Cufflinks

Exploding Cufflinks, a James Bond comic by Amy Crook

Exploding Cufflinks,
a James Bond comic by Amy Crook

The same darling patron who now owns all of my Baker Street Tinies has asked me to indulge her in a pair of MI6 Tinies. A new fandom means new character designs, so I drew up this ridiculous little comic of Daniel Craig’s James Bond, and the new Q as played by Ben Whishaw. The coloring was totally unnecessary for design purposes, but I couldn’t resist giving Bond a properly lovely tuxedo, not to mention the ridiculous check on Q’s hipster trousers.

Bond: “Not even some exploding cufflinks?” *adjusts his cuffs elegantly*
Q: “No.”
Bond: “hmph. Next time?”
Q: “…maybe”

Exploding Cufflinks, 5″x7″ pen & ink and Copic marker on paper. The original will be available in July’s Floating Gallery, or you can get them on a card in my Etsy shop.
