Zombie Bride by Amy Crook

Zombie Bride by Amy Crook

This lovely lady is another one of the bonus zombies from my Cthulhu Coloring Book. I decided to go for a more blue-toned dead (rather than grey or green), sort of an homage to The Corpse Bride. I had fun adding in some extra details with the coloring, like the bloody handprint on her dress.

Zombie Bride, 5″x7″ pen, ink and Copic markers on watercolor paper, $79 with free shipping.

Weeble Wednesday: Zombie Jesus

Zombie Jesus by Amy Crook

Zombie Jesus by Amy Crook

A certain blonde chicken challenged me to make a cute zombie Jesus card for Christmas, and who am I to resist her?

He’s meant in the spirit of fun, so his card says, “Eat of my flesh and I’ll snack on your brains,” inside.

You can pick up any of my greeting cards at Etsy, or take home his original art below.

Weeble Zombie by Amy Crook

Weeble Zombie by Amy Crook

This morbid fellow is another one of the bonus zombies from my Cthulhu coloring book. I originally had drawn a bunch of these guys for another purpose, but somehow they never got finished until I needed them for the coloring book. Still, I do love the details on this one, from his missing arm to the skull logo on his shoe.

Weeble Zombie, 5″x7″ pen, ink and Copic markers on watercolor paper, $69 with free shipping.

Zombie: Wait Up!

Zombie: Wait Up! by Amy Crook

Zombie: Wait Up! by Amy Crook

This cheerful guy is one of the bonus zombies in my Cthulhu Coloring Book — I think he’s a little stuck and wants his zombie pals to wait up while he finishes struggling his way up out of the grave in search for delicious, tasty brains.

I’ve colored him here with a ghoulish green, though I think he’d do just fine in deathly grey or a rotting pink, as well. One nice thing about this one was that the style was so loose and scribbly, it was easy to color without worrying too much about staying inside the lines.

Tattered Koi sketch by Amy Crook

Tattered Koi sketch by Amy Crook

Just a little sketch for the weekend, this fish looks like he’s seen better days. His eyes came out a bit evil, so he’s rather like a zombie koi, lurking in your pond, craving your delicious brains.

Pigeonholed

Pigeonholed by Amy Crook

Pigeonholed by Amy Crook

I painted this around the same time as some of my other abstract and semi-abstract pieces, and you can see some technical similarity with Precious and Untitled Experiment 1. The jewel-tone colors sneak through the black texture, and contrast with the frame around the sad, pigeonholed head. It’s hard to capture the subtle colors in a photograph, but the piece has a lot of depth in real life.

I actually sold this painting years ago to a friend who was moving at the time, and although it’s long paid for, he never did manage to pick it up and take it home, so I hold it in trust for him. Hey, Josh, come get your art!

Pigeonholed, 16″x20″ oil on canvas, sold.

Shrinky Dink Doodles

Shrinky Dink Doodles by Amy Crook

Shrinky Dink Doodles by Amy Crook

A while back I picked up something quite nostalgic, a Klutz Press book for doing Shrinky Dinks. If you don’t know what those are, it’s a clear-ish plastic sheet that you draw on, then cut out shapes, put it in the oven, and watch it shrink down to a much smaller size. A childhood staple for me!

I was thinking of doing up some little charms for Etsy or just for myself, and I doodled up these half-dozen images for tracing with a sharpie onto the plastic. Then I could color them with sharpie or colored pencil, cut them out, and cook them in my little toaster oven. I’m sure I’ll get around to using some of the shrinky dink material someday, if only to amuse myself.

Got a favorite?
