Inktober 2018: Week 3
Friday, October 26th, 2018
Inktober is still going! One ink drawing per day all month, often from prompts. Also still late with these recaps, so here’s week 3 of these little 2.5″x3.5″ cards, most of which were done while visiting family. Whee.

Inktober 2018: Week 1
Tuesday, October 16th, 2018
Autumn winds are blowing and fire season is almost over, which means not only October, Halloween, and Pumpkin Spice, but Inktober! I’m doing one ink drawing per day all month, pulling from a number of prompt lists. This year I’m doing everything in the Artist’s Trading Card size of 3.5″x2.5″ and sticking to black and white with the occasional cheat of grey.

Abandonment
Monday, October 8th, 2018
Often the skies come first and then the foreground goes in to match, but this time the ruins grew up out of the ashes of avoidance, and the purple clouds came rolling in later.
Spiky, burnt-out buildings lean into one another, smudged with smoke and abandoned by everyone but the carrion birds.
More ruins for a world on fire, but hey, at least they’re pretty.
Above, you can see the most-intact tower and its circle of carrion birds up close and personal. Below, the bleak landscape sits in a frame, like a window to a ruined world.

Whimsical Doldrums 2
Tuesday, October 2nd, 2018
These particular doldrums have a bit more color and less stormy skies than the last set, but never fear, there’s still a secret cat.
The heavens rain down on this strange city full of everything from crystal towers to wobbling skyscrapers, a motley of unusual architecture just waiting to bring a smile to your space.
Where would you hang this to turn someone’s frown upside down?
Above, you can see a few of the buildings up close, their loose ink and soft washes of color bringing delight to the gloom. Below, the painting waits in a frame, hoping for a forever home to grace with its fanciful ways.

Cloud Cover
Wednesday, August 8th, 2018
A sky filled with clouds, covered from horizon to infinity with smudging swirls of blue-grey in an endless cover. A skeletal tree rises up against it, the details fine as lace. Branches tangle and twist, while a black bird comes to rest, wings a blur of motion, and another flies close.
A lot of this month’s paintings are dichromatic, ink on paint, a mix of a beautiful, nearly abstract background with a black-painted foreground. This one is made of a dark, opaque ink that holds texture and gives a sense of dimension as well as the simplicity of silhouette.
Above, you can see the textures of ink, board, and paint weaving together to make a beautiful tree. Below, the painting is in its temporary frame, like a window into a piece of autumn.
