Diffidence and the Rift

Diffidence and the Rift by Amy Crook

Diffidence Obedience Atonement Smythe is a grad student who prefers to never use his full name. Ever. He’s finishing a Ph.D. in Extemporaneous Magic, and his research project for his dissertation is closing the Rift between worlds that he accidentally opened when he was thirteen. Obviously, caffeine is an important part of his life.

Ergi Thusol-Von Klempt is a half-orc who works in the infamous Goblin Market, selling magical pastries to those who need them – or, in Diff’s case, just want them. He’s got bubblegum-pink hair, lovely lilac skin, and a smile like sunshine, at least if you ask Diff. Ergi is intrigued by his frazzled, but handsome, frequent customer.

The Goblin Market is a magical space that anyone can find if they truly need it, and most people visit once or twice if at all. Diff is there several times a week as he untangles the layered mysteries of the Rift, and has had years to develop his crush on Ergi.

In this cozy urban fantasy, Diff and Ergi find some solutions to life’s problems in the Market, along with the courage to talk to each other.

Diff might even find a future beyond the Rift that has consumed over a decade of his life.

The House With the Haunted Heart

Friday, January 31st, 2025

It’s here! It’s haunted!

My latest novel, The House With the Haunted Heart, is a light, spooky romance between a boy, the Bay Area, and his house. Moving up from Silicon Valley, Aaron’s looking for love, peace, and pizza.

The House: A gently decaying Victorian with a well-deserved reputation for being haunted. On its fifth foreclosure after previous owners abandoned it.

The Homeowner: Aaron Calveley, recently escaped from Silicon Valley and working remotely at his programming job. A gay, half-Asian horror nerd with a reasonably popular gaming stream. Single, and hoping to fix that through the power of online dating.

What exactly is haunting the house, and what does it want with its latest buyer? Will Aaron ever have a good date, let alone find a boyfriend? Is the East Bay worth it?

Hopefully the pizza delivery driver learns to find Aaron before the ghost does.

30 Day Marker Challenge, part 1

Tuesday, April 11th, 2017

The amazing Sadynax gave herself a 30-day Marker Challenge last month, and I decided to do it for April to help get back in the swing of art after my surgery. Each day had its own weird quirks, and I think I already know which one I’m gonna redo for day 30, haha.

I’m giving my wonderful Patreon supporters some bonuses at the $5+ sketch levels this month, so it’s a good time to become a patron!
