Hedgehog Hammock by Amy Crook

Hedgehog Hammock by Amy Crook

When I showed him this sketch, my friend Jeff asked, “Is that a really small person, or a really huge hedgehog?”

My response now is the same as it was then — whatever makes the viewer smile more.

Have a great weekend!

Squid sketch by Amy Crook

Squid sketch by Amy Crook

I found this hiding among my old scans today, I believe he was a little sketch I did on a greeting card for a friend. There’s just something fun about drawing the curl and sway of tentacles!

Friendly Card Game

Friendly Card Game by Amy Crook

Friendly Card Game by Amy Crook

I feel as though this should be renamed “Myths Playing Poker,” except neither one is really a specific mythical creature. I’m thinking of doing this up as a watercolor, but we’ll see how much motivation actually occurs. I do have another watercolor to work on, though, so it’s got a chance.

Edit: Got the watercolor done, you can see it here.

I drew this the other day when I was at a cafe with a friend, it was nice to have nothing else to do, because it encouraged me to make the piece much more finished and add a lot of detail rather than just doodle up a quick sketch.

Snuggy Feet sketch by Amy Crook

Snuggy Feet sketch by Amy Crook

Just a little pencil sketch for the weekend, it’s two people cuddling though the foreshortening on the leftmost foot rather suggests a third very small-footed party has snuck in. Alas, that’s what I get for working from photo references.

Also, feet are a pain to draw.

Vampire Pumpkin by Amy Crook

A continuation of last week’s Twitter suggestion from @etherjammer, I give you a cute little vampire pumpkin. I am tempted to refine this into some kind of motif or dingbat, he’s just so adorable.

Setting It Free by Amy Crook

Setting It Free by Amy Crook

Just a little sketch for Saturday, an experiment in figure drawing. I didn’t feel like repeating the “reaching for the unattainable” post again, so this time I gave him something to set free. Let’s hope it comes back, and brings him some clothes.

Bobtail Squid

Bobtail Squid sketch by Amy Crook

Bobtail Squid sketch by Amy Crook

Today’s art is a startled little bobtail squid, who clearly wasn’t expecting to have his portrait sketched this morning. I’ve got a tiny painting of one of his cousins in the works, actually, which I’ll be getting back to once my last houseguest of the summer leaves and life returns to some value of normal.
