WIP: Tunnel in the Light
Friday, March 11th, 2011
After making In and In and In, I wanted to try out the opposite sort of impression, of descending from light into a dark tunnel or well. I had some iridescent paints out while I was working on a commission, so after that got to a stopping point, I worked up this little canvas. I’ve still got a bit more I want to do with it, so it’s a work in progress – it doesn’t even really have a name yet.

Work in Progress: Golden Light
Thursday, February 10th, 2011
One of the things I do when I’ve got my oil paints out is to prepare canvases to become future works. I have no idea what I’m going to do with this little canvas and its wash of golden light (the lighting in the image only intensifies the effect of the paint), but I’m sure I’ll think of something. A soft, sepia-and-white portrait, perhaps. Or giant evil bees. Who knows?

Super Cute Squid Sketch
Tuesday, February 1st, 2011
This little cutie is an experiment in taking the cute squids I usually draw all the way to extra super awesomely cute. His chubby little tentacles and tiny, beadlike eyes just make me want to hug him!
You’ll probably see him again once I’ve taken the time to finish him, maybe as vector art rather than by hand, just for variety.

Work in Progress: Swirls
Tuesday, January 18th, 2011
When I was painting this weekend, I pulled out this 5″x7″ canvas with its lovely wrapped edges and added the first layer of something to it. I’m not sure what it’s going to be, if it’ll stay abstract or perhaps grow some sort of Lovecraftian tentacle monster, but I like the swirly, watery feel of it.

Sneak Preview – Cthulhu Heart
Thursday, December 23rd, 2010
Here’s a little sneak preview of my next awesome thing, a Monster Heart Coloring Book for Valentine’s Day! I’m giving you a sneak peek here with Cthulhu’s tentacley little heart, which he’s offering up to you. I’ll be drawing a new Cthulhu to go with it, along with a bunch of other great classic monsters like Dracula and the Mummy.
Also, instead of bonus zombies, I’m drawing Bonus Brides! After all, it Frankenstein’s Monster wouldn’t be complete without his bride.
This coloring book will be 4 images bigger than the last, but sell for the same price — $13.13 for printed & mailed, and $9.13 for the download. I’m hoping to have them up before Jan. 1, so you can make sure your valentine is all ready. There will even be matching cards!
So, who’s your favorite classic monster, from film or literature?

WIP: Mother Moon
Tuesday, December 14th, 2010
This maternal moon is part of a whimsical work in progress that I’ve been very slow in creating this year. It’s taken me ages and it’s not remotely done, but I finally did a bit on it a few weeks ago, including some refinements to this charming lady.
I always forget how the gloomy winter weather makes me want to stay out of the studio, which mostly relies on natural light. Perhaps there’ll be some sun and a free afternoon before the end of the year, so I can get a bit more paint onto several of my waiting canvases.

WIP: Molten Sun
Monday, July 5th, 2010
After finishing Molten Sky, I hung it up in my apartment to dry, and slowly got an idea for ways to make the single idea into a series. This is the second one, also 24″ square. For a long time it looked like it had a bite out of it and made me crave Oreos, but now I’ve finally got the metallic copper, bronze and gold filled in the “bite.” I’m not quite sure how I’m going to finish it off, but for now it’s drying in the same spot the other one occupied, where I can look up and see it and contemplate.
