Sunday Round-Up & Dr. John’s Thermometer sketch
Sunday, July 14th, 2013
This week, lots of things! Monday I posted art from the cover of my new novel, wot I self-published myself and stuff, and Tuesday I posted a giveaway of one hard copy of the book, so if you haven’t commented there you should! Wednesday the wonderful Jo VanEvery agreed to talk about how she uses my illustrations in her business. Thursday we gazed up at the Milky Way, and Friday there were mysterious silver swirls. Saturday Captain Jack Harkness came along to cheer us all up, and now it’s time for a sketch!
John Watson reminds Sherlock he’s a doctor, and is not putting up with any of Sherlock’s whinging about being sick. He’s got no problem doing this the hard way.

Sherlock Bookmark 8
Saturday, June 22nd, 2013
This bookmark was one of the first to sell when I sent my list a preview for last Bookmark Week, so I swapped it out for the Harvest Bookmark during posting. It qualifies for a Saturday cartoon now, however, so you can all covet what you can’t have, or something.
I often use the bookmarks to experiment with things I want to do in proper paintings, and in this case I was seeing if the opaque white would work for highlights over a toned paper. The white picks up the tone a bit too easily, I think, but it still made for a fun little Sherlock sketch.
Sherlock Bookmark 8, 2″x5″ watercolor on paper, nfs (sold).
Above, you can see a close-up of Sherlock’s unimpressed face. The highlights worked fine on hair and coat, but got lost in the blue on his face. Below, you can see it hanging out with a book, showing off its shapely dimensions.

He Means He Forgot
Saturday, June 15th, 2013
I’m slowly continuing to flesh out my actual purpose-made greeting cards, and this time it’s John who’s got belated birthday wishes for you. He’s already embarrassed to be bringing the card so late, and then of course Sherlock has to pipe up with his own two cents.
He Means He Forgot, 5″x7″ pen & ink and Copic marker on paper, nfs (sold). Get them on a card instead!
Above, you can see a close-up of John’s blushing face. Below, you can see the art hanging out in a frame, reflecting on life in the surface of my phone.

Sunday Round-Up & Sherlock Brush Sketch
Sunday, June 2nd, 2013
I hope you all are having a lovely Sunday, it’s warm and sunny here (well, all right, when this posts it’ll be 3am and totally dark, but you get the idea). This week we started out on Monday with a sketchy crow, and then Tuesday a differently sketchy goldfish swum onto the scene. Wednesday I totally failed to tell you how to paint a goldfish but did show some nice shots of my background making process. Thursday I reminded you of the age-old internet adage: the orange ones are poison. Friday’s art was morbidly meticulous, and Saturday cheered us up with a somewhat belated eleventh Doctor.
Finally, we go back around to a brush-and-ink sketch of my favorite consulting detective and his cheekbones.

Dealing With a Child
Saturday, May 4th, 2013
This is one of my favorite moments with the good Detective Inspector, when he’s all sprawled out in Sherlock’s chair, a cheerful grin on his face, giving Sherlock crap for being a dick. It worked so well I thought it might make a fun Father’s Day card, in fact, to go with Mrs. Hudson for Mother’s Day, since that’s often the role he seems to embody in Sherlock’s life.
Dealing With a Child, 5″x7″ pen & ink and Copic marker on paper, nfs (sold). But you can get him on a greeting card at Etsy!

Gee, Thanks
Thursday, May 2nd, 2013
Everyone in a certain corner of the internet knows that John Watson and this horrible kitten sweater were meant for each other, creepy staring blue doll eyes and all. Sherlock, on the other hand, disagrees. But then, he would.
Gee, Thanks, 5″x7″ pen & ink and Copic marker on paper, nfs (sold). But you can get them on a thank you card at Etsy!
Above, you can see the horrible sweater up close. Staring at you. Always staring.
Below, you can see the card all printed out and ready to horrify your loved ones!

No Resemblance
Monday, April 29th, 2013
This little comic was suggested to me on Twitter back in November, and it’s taken me this long to get around to drawing it. The two tall, slender, logical, dark-haired men don’t see any resemblance, but I’m guessing you do.
Random artist trivia: normally I’m very good at spelling, but I have some sort of mental block with the a in “resemblance,” and keep spelling it with all ‘e’s and having to fix it, including in the pencils for the comic. Good thing I decided to spell check myself!
No Resemblance, 5″x7″ pen & ink and Copic marker on paper, nfs (sold).
Above, you can see how I’ve given them very similar features, down to the hair color and eyebrow lift. Below, I’ve tucked them into a frame with Sherlock’s skull, which I’m sure Spock would find fascinating.
