Looking Down at the Moon
Sunday, May 5th, 2019
At first glance it almost seems like a reflection of moonlight on a puddle of water.
But then the moon itself, that mysterious harvest-gold disk, is free of the ripples haloing it. And it seems to float just below them, as though one has managed to stand atop the skip and gaze down upon it from a great height indeed.
Or perhaps the moon is trapped in a well like some fairy tale, waiting for someone to give her a hand in exchange for a wish.
Above, you can see the layered waves and ripples of color — the gold here is probably the most accurate of all the photos, though the blue is more accurate in the framed photo, below. Ah, gamut issues.

Let Me Dance
Saturday, May 4th, 2019
Aglow is a series of abstracts with a sense of light to them, each containing a quote of some kind.
Sometimes the quote comes first, but more often the palette arrives on a whim, the painting proceeds into swirling, swooping color, and then words are the last piece of the puzzle.
This one called for a quote from a Robert Plant & Jimmy Page song, “give me peace of mind and let me dance.”
Above, you can see a close-up of the hand-painted lettering in all its spiky glory. Below, you can see it waiting in a frame, ready to be sent off to live on someone’s wall.
PS – May the Fourth be with you!
…and also with you.

Thirteen
Thursday, March 14th, 2019
One of my patrons suggested that something related to the new Doctor Who, specifically the 13th Doctor’s sweater, would make a fun abstract in the same style as the trio styled after Marvel characters from last year. They then claimed it when the preview went up on Patreon, so clearly it was a good suggestion.
Bright TARDIS blue offsets the not-quite-rainbow stripes, color bubbling up through the image in drops and drips and drabs.
Which Doctor’s your favorite?
Above, you can see the stripes on the sweater, with all its texture and swirls of color. Below, the painting is in its frame, waiting for its new owner to retrieve it.

Forgiveness
Wednesday, March 6th, 2019
Desmond Tutu wrote an entire book titled No Future Without Forgiveness, and the title resonated with the soft, earthy swirls of this painting. There’s two different pieces in my Aglow series this month, and this one called out for a quote about forgiveness to float atop the warm spiral.
A patron commented that it looked like milk being stirred into tea, which fits perfectly with the feeling of warmth and care — for oneself, for others, for the world — that I had hoped to convey.
Above, you can see the hand-lettered quote, a reminder floating on warm earthtones. Below, you can see this large painting in a frame, waiting to bring peace to your home.
