Christmas Cupboard, Harry Potter fan art by Amy Crook

Christmas Cupboard, Harry Potter fan art by Amy Crook

When I was doing holiday card art this year, I had to do one for Harry Potter, too. He’s got a rather tentacular Christmas tree, but he’s never let things being a bit spooky stop him from enjoying his holidays.

Just remember, the cupboard under the stairs is only for hiding Christmas presents, not little boys.

I’m happy to write something on the blank space of the cupboard image if you’d like, or you can keep them as is in their frame for a very Potter sort of Christmas.

And here we come to the very end of Bookmark Week with John Watson. He’s leaning against a cool grey wall, and he’s been colored all in warm and cool greys himself, even his face and hair, just like Lestrade yesterday. The skull is grinning white from above, though I admit I didn’t get too enthusiastic and do the wallpaper properly.

If you did want a bookmark of your own, you can check out the ones that are still available here. They make great stocking stuffers!

The week is nearly at an end, and here we come to our Saturday Morning Cartoon, which is also already spoken for. DI Lestrade’s just leaning against the wall, checking his texts while he waits for something interesting to happen. I colored this one entirely in shades of grey, just like Thinking in Grey but without all the background madness.

Shut Up and Help for the Holidays, Sherlock BBC fan art by Amy Crook

I decided I wanted a second Sherlock holiday card this year, and I decided it had to have Sherlock being his usual annoying self. I spared John any truly awful Christmas sweaters, but made him carry all the boxes.

Hellfire

Hellfire, abstract painting by Amy Crook

Hellfire, abstract painting by Amy Crook

Oranges and reds are some of the hardest colors to reproduce really well in Photoshop, alas. This piece has a great, intense bright orange that lightens up to golden-yellow in one corner, and holds a secret little demon-face in the other that scowls at you from out of the flame, or perhaps is made from it. The texture is enhanced with a bit of brown in the low spots, and the little face got a tiny bit of extra love to pull it out of the background using Copic markers.

Above, you can see the scowly little demon-face glaring up at you from the canvas. Below, I stepped back and got a photo of it with some of the stuff on my desk, including pens, pencils, and a Jack in the Box Christmas antenna ball, because I am a very special sort of artist.

What What What, Doctor Who fan art by Amy Crook

What What What, Doctor Who fan art by Amy Crook

After making the Eleventh Doctor’s holiday card art, I had to do something with Ten. The darling Tara Swiger suggested the idea for the text, “What? What? No! What?” on the outside of the card, and inside it says, “It’s Christmas already?”

I also decided to draw the other side of the TARDIS on this one, just for variety, but then there was a magical result — the two images together had two Doctors with one TARDIS between them!

What What What, 5″x7″ pen & ink and Copic markers on paper, nfs (sold).

Thinking in Grey

Thinking in Grey, Sherlock fan art by Amy Crook

Thinking in Grey, Sherlock fan art by Amy Crook

Copic markers have four kinds of grey — warm, cool, neutral and toner. I used warm and cool greys to put in all shading here, giving the whole image a muted effect like an old photo. You might recognize the pose from last week’s bookmark, which was sort of practice for this bigger piece, though of course I widened the view quite a bit.
