Blood Moon 7
Monday, December 5th, 2016
An impressive wingspan gives the bird a gorgeous silhouette against this rich, golden-red blood moon. There are subtle copper stars twinkling in the black sky, and the whole image holds the rich texture of the paper it’s painted on.
The dramatic red and black would be beautiful in a wide black frame, but even in the narrow one in the photo it really makes a statement.
Where in your life do you need wings?
Above, you can see a close-up of the texture of feathers, of the surface of the moon, and the twinkle of stars out in the space beyond. Below, the small frame beautifully contains this dramatic work of art.

A Murder of Crows 3
Tuesday, November 8th, 2016
Blues and violets and soft lavenders glow against the rich black of the tree and crows, the sky softly textured as if with a mist that’s parted to display the shining moon in all her glory.
Nine dark crows are coming to roost in the sparse winter tree, its branches ravaged by some accident of the past, lightning or storm or some other act of man or nature.
A full moon brings clarity and insight with it, shining its light into all the branching processes of your decisions and thoughts.
Above, you can see the blue midnight sky, glowing violet moon, and deep black of the twisty tree and gathered birds. Below, it’s in a temporary frame, just waiting to fly to its new roost.

Harvest Moon 3
Saturday, November 5th, 2016
Remember, remember, the fifth of November — happy Guy Fawkes Day, Brits! Don’t forget to check your bonfire for hedgehogs and Watsons (same thing, really).
This ink painting uses a gorgeous wash of honey-gold to create a lush harvest moon, and then a deep, opaque black for the sky and silhouetted crow flying across the moon. There are slightly shimmery copper stars in the vast blackness of the sky adding a touch of life to the dramatic image.
There is a beautiful sense of movement as the crow glides across the moon, not quite centered but wonderfully detailed despite being a single color of deep black.
This golden harvest moon will add a bit of mystery to its new home.
Above, you can see all the lovely pinfeathers in silhouette against the orange moon. Below, the piece is stunning in its frame.

Shadow City
Friday, November 4th, 2016
An alien city made of shadow rises up through a sky so thick with glittering golden stars it’s almost its own kind of light. A violet moon rises up behind it, huge and full, showing the buildings to be insubstantial, or perhaps existing on an entirely different plane than the light that goes right through them.
Last year’s Inktober brought the beautiful, bold Blood Moon 6. This year’s sequel features a much softer moon dripping with violet mystery, and a taller shadowy city glowing with its stolen light.
Which of these oddling structures is your favorite?
Above, you can see the exquisite detail on the shadowy, insubstantial buildings, and the beautiful texture of the violet moon. Below, the art looks gorgeous in a frame, just waiting for a permanent place to shine.

Inktober 2016, Week 2
Monday, October 17th, 2016
Inktober continues apace! It’s a busy week, so there’s some easy stuff and some more complex ink art. Some of these will be available as cards, some of them will be in a bookmark sale for my email list next month, and some of them are already spoken for. There’s even a couple of things destined for November’s Floating Gallery. Quite a variety!

Firefly Moon
Friday, August 5th, 2016
Fireflies flash and hide in this misty, delicately textured night scene. The sky is full of soft clouds and the subtle shine of stars behind them, the bright moon glowing against the fog.
The beautiful green shines when the light hits it, but nearly vanishes when it’s in shadow, just the way real fireflies only sometimes glow with their mysterious phosphorescence.
Did you used to chase them on lazy summer nights, trying to hold the stars in the palm of your hand?
Above, you can see the green shine catch the light and glow against the misty sky behind it. Below, this tiny beauty is waiting in a frame so you can keep those summer memories always close at hand.

Blood Moon 6
Wednesday, December 2nd, 2015
This ink wash is a vivid addition to my City series, which is also the 6th of my Blood Moon paintings.
The blood moon glows with a rich red-gold radiance. The sky is home to a thousand glittering golden stars in halo around it. A dark city awaits below, reflecting the glow of them both.
Built in layers, this piece was first a wash of red and gold inks, and then a globe of light in the middle of gold-dusted night, and finally became a city. Each layer is a different kind of ink, even the gold dust.
Blood Moon 6, 8″x8″ brush & ink and ink wash on Fluid watercolor paper.
Above, you can see the shimmering gold dust in the Stormy Grey ink, and the solid Deleter Manga ink that blacks it out where the buildings rise up, with the beautiful red shining through both where appropriate. Below, you can see the piece in a frame, waiting to grace your walls with its eerie beauty.
