Translucent Pelagic Octopus tiny painting by Amy Crook

Translucent Pelagic Octopus tiny painting by Amy Crook

Today’s tiny painting is a Translucent Pelagic Octopus, a deep-sea creature that floats ghostlike in the dark ocean. They have some phosphorescence in blues and reds and even a bit of gold to go with the white, and seem to be sculptures of living glass. Iridescent paint gives the image a big of shimmer, adding to the effect.

He’s giving you a cheerful hello wave from his tiny canvas, which is about the size of a postcard. He comes with a small wooden easel to easily display him on a flat surface such as a bookshelf, mantelpiece, desk, cubicle, or very patient cat.

13 Pink Roses

13 Pink Roses by Amy Crook

13 Pink Roses by Amy Crook

The 13th rose is barely on the canvas, sneaking my lucky number onto this rosebush. Branches lean out over a white fence, and bees buzz lazily around the flowers. The bright blue summer sky has a pale summer sun shining down, and the whole image is painted in oils on a small four-by-five-inch canvas board.

The edges of this canvas board are finished, the image wrapping around to the sides to add a some extra dimension. The easel is included, so this painting can be displayed as is on a bookshelf, desk, windowsill, or anywhere you want a little lazy summer sunshine.

Impressionist Flowers by Amy Crook

With the tiny paintings, I will often paint a batch of skies, or water, or whatever, and go back in and decide what to do with it later. When I pulled out this warm blue sky to work on it again, I wanted to do something impressionistic for spring that really brought that feeling of warm sleepy days with bees buzzing around the flowers.

The edges of this canvas board are finished, the image wrapping around to the sides to add a some extra dimension. The easel is included, so this painting can be displayed as is on a bookshelf, desk, windowsill, or anywhere you want a little spring sunshine.

Green Sea Turtle

Green Sea Turtle by Amy Crook

Green Sea Turtle by Amy Crook

A few months back I held a contest on the Not Dead Yet Studios blog to give away one Cartoon, and one custom tiny painting. The very patient CaZ from 2 Chicks at Home won the painting, and it’s finally done.

She asked for a green sea turtle (which I was surprised to find after some Googling wasn’t particularly green), and so I went looking for reference photos and got started. Rather than using one of the tiny 2.75″ square canvases, I decided to go with a slightly larger canvas board to give the little guy some room to swim.

As soon as he’s dry enough, he’ll get packed up and shipped off to his new home. He was fun to paint, and I’m thinking perhaps I need to do another contest soon — though maybe this time for an existing work.

Princess Fish by Amy Crook

Princess Fish by Amy Crook

This tiny oil painting is perfect for a little niche. When I first found these wee little canvases with their accompanying easels, I was so excited to start painting right away that I painted up several backgrounds, and then let them sit for a while. While I was googling I found a photo of this colorful tropical fish, and then once she was painted, she demanded a crown to let everyone know she was the Princess of her little school of fish.

The edges of this little canvas are finished, the image wrapping around to the sides to add a little dimensions to this tiny bit of undersea paradise. The crown is painted in metallic gold, and there’s a touch of pearlescent white in the shining water and on her shimmery skin, just to add a little sparkle.
