Face not Facebook, cartoon by Amy Crook

Face not Facebook, cartoon by Amy Crook

When I made my Instagram missing you card art, I also wanted to make one for FB, so I got out my blandest blue marker and drew up this little character of indeterminate gender. If they never leave their desk or log out of Facebook, it doesn’t really matter anyway, does it?

You can get him on a greeting card here at Etsy, and send him to all those friends and relatives you “like” but would like to see in person, too.

Get Well, Watson, Sherlock fan art by Amy Crook

Get Well, Watson, Sherlock fan art by Amy Crook

While working on The Death of Me, Too, I was thinking about making a Sherlock-themed Get Well card for my Etsy shop, and this is the result. Poor pale John is looking a bit careworn, with dark circles under his eyes and the otter next to him for comfort. Fortunately we know how the story ends, and that he survives Sherlock’s version of “care” just fine.

Get Well, Watson, 7″x5″ pen & ink and Copic marker on paper, nfs (sold).

Above, you can see the blue smudges under John’s distressed little eyes, and his otter plushie disavowing all knowledge of what’s going on. Below, he’s hidden himself in a frame, hoping Sherlock won’t find him until he’s well again.

Lucky Squid

Lucky Squid cartoon by Amy Crook

Lucky Squid cartoon by Amy Crook, $99

This little squid is pure self-indulgence! I was in my favorite place for bubble tea, and I noticed they had a bunch of various lucky cat sculptures around. The owner has always enjoyed my squid cards at the holidays, so I decided I needed to combine these two ideas with a proper Lucky Squid. I even googled the traditions so I could decide which details to keep (the red ears and white coat became red fins and white skin, and of course he’s got his gold coin), and which to ignore (a squid in a collar and bib didn’t seem like it would work). I even put him on a greeting card!

Above, you can see the coin up close and my terrible rendition of the traditional kanji for 10 million ryo, washed red on the paper and blue in the ink by the sunlight. Below, the cheerful little squid beckons to you from a frame, accompanied by my stalwart iPhone and a few plushie friends.

Tying the Knot

Tying the Knot, squid cartoon by Amy Crook

Tying the Knot, squid cartoon by Amy Crook

These two squid have found love in each other, the blue-eyed green squid and green-eyed blue squid making the perfect pair. They’ve just tied the knot, so congratulate them on their union! Just don’t ask which one’s the boy.

Tying the Knot, 7″x5″ pen & ink and Copic marker on paper.

You can also congratulate your cephalopod-loving friends on their marriage with a card from my Etsy shop.

Thank You Squid

Thank You Squid cartoon by Amy Crook

Thank You Squid cartoon by Amy Crook, $99

Wouldn’t a gift like this make you want to say “Thank You” to the giver? I mean, really, who wouldn’t want a squid that cute? And the squid of course just wants to be loved and appreciated. It’s even sporting a bright red bow!

Above is the cheery red bow shining in the sun, on top of the squid’s teal head. The original is a gorgeous bright teal color, which of course no screen will ever reproduce properly. Dammit. Below, he’s hanging out in a frame with an octopus from Ikea. Well, pentapus, really. Ikea’s a bit odd that way.

Eleven’s 1100

Eleven's 1100, Doctor Who fan art by Amy Crook

Eleven’s 1100, Doctor Who fan art by Amy Crook

The Doctor is unimpressed with boring human age-related angst as well, because it’s a good time to be drawing birthday card art. He’s lived over 1100 years! He’s got his trusty TARDIS to keep him company, anyway, and a bowtie. Bowties are cool.

Eleven’s 1100, 5″x7″ pen & ink and Copic marker on paper, nfs (sold). He’s still available as a card in my Etsy shop.

Tea at Bag End

Tea at Bag End, The Hobbit fan art by Amy Crook

Tea at Bag End, The Hobbit fan art by Amy Crook

After I drew Second Breakfast and sold the original, I was very sad for the empty spot on my wheat-yellow wall he had once occupied. So, I drew a Bilbo of my very own! He’s having a lovely tea at home in his dressing gown. Bilbo’s very glad to be back in the Shire where a hobbit can get six proper meals a day and enjoy a proper cuppa in comfort.

I’m considering making prints or blank cards, I haven’t decided yet, but his original art is staying here with me.

Above, you can see Reaching Out and Tea at Bag End in their permanent homes, and Skull Paper (which will post later this week) hanging out with them so I can enjoy it while I still have it.
