These particular doldrums have a bit more color and less stormy skies than the last set, but never fear, there’s still a secret cat.
The heavens rain down on this strange city full of everything from crystal towers to wobbling skyscrapers, a motley of unusual architecture just waiting to bring a smile to your space.

Cloud Cover

Cloud Cover, 8″x10″ ink and watercolor on artboard
A sky filled with clouds, covered from horizon to infinity with smudging swirls of blue-grey in an endless cover. A skeletal tree rises up against it, the details fine as lace. Branches tangle and twist, while a black bird comes to rest, wings a blur of motion, and another flies close.
A lot of this month’s paintings are dichromatic, ink on paint, a mix of a beautiful, nearly abstract background with a black-painted foreground. This one is made of a dark, opaque ink that holds texture and gives a sense of dimension as well as the simplicity of silhouette.

Another Gallery, another Growth.
The theme continues to develop, the feeling of macroscopic or microscopic increasing with this eleventh addition to the series.
A bright green central circle is surrounded, edged and even intruded upon, by metallic dots that stand out from the page. Everything has texture and weight, a presence that makes it fascinating to move in the light, to run fingers over.
There are three layers of gold under the dots, from a deep gold near the center through nearly silver.

This particular city skyline has a very specific sort of aesthetic, grim yet filled with delight. From the curlicue clouds to the building that’s a cat, there’s whimsy to go along with the gloom.
The painting is a true panorama, covering a swathe of buildings huddled close against the rain, their outlines loose and details smudged with rainfall.

Bold splashes of burnt orange spark through a field of purples, from a soft mineral lavender to a deep violet black. A loose, liquid boundary almost contains the color like a frame, but there’s splashes all around, joyfully bursting free of the confines of geometry.
This is a gorgeous abstract, bright and warm without being too obnoxious, and would go elegantly in any room.

Humanity has explored such a small percentage of the oceans, and we can comfortably swim or surf or sail on just the thinnest sliver of surface. We never know what lies just beneath those waves, waiting patiently for their time to come.
This monster with its blank, shining eye and teeth taller than a mast is there below the waves that propel this surfer just over its head.
But not necessarily out of its reach.
