H is for (Mrs.) Hudson by Amy Crook
Now that the dreaded season of taxes is past, let’s get back to a more cheerful subject — death! I’ve finally completed the next pair of characters in my Baker Street Tinies series of parody pastiches. First up is poor Mrs. Hudson, who should know better than to open Sherlock’s packages.
Her pose and predicament is from “T is for Titus,” in the original Gashlycrumb Tinies by Edward Gorey, but the wallpaper is from the show (the weird lamp is all me). There was something strangely satisfying about drawing all those birds and branches for the express purpose of implying they’d be demolished shortly.

The original was a commission (I’m trading with a knitty friend for the best shawl ever), but she’s kindly allowed me to sell them as greeting cards in my Etsy shop.

Not Your Housekeeper, a Sherlock comic by Amy Crook
The Other Amy is a wonderful customer of my Etsy shop, and she wrote me a little note to see if I was going to make a Mrs. Hudson card for Mother’s day. I hadn’t been planning to, but I thought her idea was so cute I drew it up! There’s going to be a matching card for Father’s Day with our favorite detective inspector, so watch out for that next week.

And so we come to the end, when John and Sherlock have both survived their terrible colds and, in John’s case, some rather terrible caretaking. I think the expression on John’s face here really says it all, don’t you?

Lestrade’s stopped in to see how things are going at 221b, and he’s a bit concerned for John’s chances of survival. John is, too, but Sherlock’s perfectly confident and doesn’t appreciate all this doubt. He’s even pulled out his Manual of Exotic Diseases vol. III to check up on John’s symptoms, not to mention sharing his hedgehog.

And of course, it being Sherlock, he might be taking this caring thing a little too far. He’s brought oranges, biscuits, more tissues, another blanket, another pillow, a sandwich, and of course some chicken soup. He’s sure he read somewhere that it’s better to feed sick boys their soup so they eat it all, but John’s just not cooperating.

John might be sick, but he’s clever enough to know what will get Sherlock to reciprocate at least a little care, even if it’s just a cup of tea. If there’s one thing Sherlock can’t stand, after all, it’s being told he can’t figure something out.
