Son of More Coloring Book Doodles

Monday, December 13th, 2010

Another busy weekend — I did a ton of art yesterday, actually, but none of it was really art post material yet. Oops? Anyway, here’s yet more doodles done for kind purchases of the Cthulhu Coloring Book.

Weeble Wednesday: HP Weebles

HP Weebles by Amy Crook

HP Weebles by Amy Crook

This is one of the first refine weeble-style drawings I ever did, back a few years ago when I was just perfecting the style. It’s meant to be Kingsley Shacklebolt, Harry Potter & Charlie Weasley, with Kingsley and Charlie showing off their respective awesomenesses to a properly impressed Harry. I’ve always liked the way it came out, from the expressions to the adorable little dragonet. And you can see how these little guys developed into the weebles I draw today.

Weeble Yog-Sothoth by Amy Crook

Weeble Yog-Sothoth by Amy Crook

If you’re feeling a bit short of time this holiday week, perhaps Yog-Sothoth could help you out — or make it all so much worse. Yog-Sothoth is an Outer God of the Lovecraft mythos, and yet another of the oddling creatures in my Cthulhu Coloring Book. Yog-Sothoth was named The Lurker at the Threshold by Lovecraft, and is considered to be both at one with all of time and space, and outside of it.

My interpretation of his form as “great globes of light” is a bit whimsical, so I decided to use actual watercolor to experiment with his coloring, and had fun working wet-in-wet to get some rather psychedelic effects.

Yog-Sothoth, 5″x7″ pen and ink and watercolor on watercolor paper, $79 with free shipping.

Weeble Wednesday: Zombie

This morbid fellow is another one of the bonus zombies from my Cthulhu coloring book. I originally had drawn a bunch of these guys for another purpose, but somehow they never got finished until I needed them for the coloring book. Still, I do love the details on this one, from his missing arm to the skull logo on his shoe.

Weeble Wednesday: Obligatory Cultist

Cultist by Amy Crook

Cultist by Amy Crook

After doing all those other Lovecraftian monsters, I decided that one thing my coloring book needed was a proper hooded-robed cultist to worship them. He’s wearing the Elder Sign as sketched by Lovecraft (rather than the more star-like version used in Arkham Horror), and chanting in some sanity-rending ancient tongue in his attempts to summon Cthulhu, or one of the other Great Old Ones. Or maybe just a Shoggoth, who knows.

You can find him and a bunch of the monsters he’s trying to summon in my Cthulhu Coloring Book on Etsy, which you can buy either as a pdf or a printed book.

Weeble Wednesday: Cthulhu has a Coloring Book!

Cthulhu Coloring Book by Amy Crook

Cthulhu Coloring Book by Amy Crook

Encouraged by the success of my Lovecraft-themed greeting cards on Etsy, I decided to up the ante this season and make a whole coloring book! There’s a few weebles you’ve already seen, and a bunch you haven’t — I even did a whole new Cthulhu for the cover (plus he’s on page 1 for your coloring pleasure).

There’s a whole bunch of adorably creepy creatures from the stories of HP Lovecraft and the other authors who’ve played in his Mythos over the years, plus a small mob of bonus Zombies.

You can get the Cthulhu Coloring Book on Etsy, either as a pdf or a printed book.
