Alternate Universes: Dominant/submissive (NSFW)
Wednesday, October 23rd, 2013
This one’s a bit naughty! The alternate universe posits that everyone has a “dynamic” and is a dominant or submissive, and then goes around assigning those roles to the characters and seeing what happens.
In this case, what happened was that Sherlock is a rather pushy submissive and earned himself a spanking. This is the “after” cuddle he gets once he’s been sufficiently scolded; there’s a second version of this panel that’s more R-rated below. I did that one first, and then decided that for the Etsy print perhaps a PG version was necessary.

Alternate Universes: Wingfic
Tuesday, October 22nd, 2013
Another day, another universe! I chose to do the golden sunset behind their warm brown wings for this one, covering both orange and yellow in one panel for my rainbow of AUs.
Wingfic is also pretty self-explanatory, though there’s as many variations on it as there are authors. Sometimes they can fly and sometimes the wings aren’t usable, sometimes they’re angels or demons or just freaks of nature. Sometimes it’s just one or the other of them that has wings, and sometimes it’s a whole world full of flying humans.

Alternate Universes: Vampire/Werewolf
Monday, October 21st, 2013
Halloween is the season for dressing up as things you aren’t, and I have a 6-panel Sherlock comic to celebrate. One of my favorite patrons commissioned these comics to celebrate some of the alternate universes that the Sherlock characters get thrust into in fic and art.
This first one is fairly self-explanatory, a supernatural AU where Sherlock Holmes, pale and skinny as he is, is a fashionable vampire, and the more earthy John Watson is a werewolf. Of course, there’s every variation to be found out there, with John as the vampire or both of them werewolves or one of them really a banshee or a ghost, but this configuration is the stereotypical arrangement of species.

Each panel is colored with its own scheme, and this one (as you can see) is red. You can get a preview of the whole thing below.

Deck the Smaug, holiday fan art by Amy Crook
I’m pretty sure this is the silliest holiday card I’ve ever designed, but I’m such a fan of the silly Smaug/Bilbo art out there on the internet, I had to toss in one of my own. Bilbo raided Smaug’s hoard for bells and gold chains, but I have no idea where he got the giant ribbons or pine boughs for the rest of his cheerful holiday decorating.
At least Smaug will smell delicious while he’s eating you!

5 Sherlock bookmarks, commission art by Amy Crook
Yay, more Sherlock bookmarks! I did these as tests for the elaborately colored 6-panel comic (and print!) I’m posting next week, as part of a commission for one of my darling patrons. Some of them reflect the comics and some not so much, but they were all a test for our rainbow color scheme.
What, you say, you didn’t know I did commission bookmarks? Well, I do now! You might be asking yourself how these are different than regular fan art commissions, and so I’ll tell you, because I’m nice that way.
- They’re $15 each, flat, no matter what’s on them.
- You tell me what you want, I draw and send. No sketches, no previews.
- Color vs black and white is up to my discretion.
- It’ll be on whatever bookmark-like scrap of paper I have to hand.
- This applies to fan art comics only, no portraits or watercolors or any of that fancy jazz.
- They tend to be a lot faster than a regular commission.
- Email me if you want one! (Okay, that’s the same.)
The ones above are all on drawing paper scraps rather than thicker watercolor paper or cardstock, but I know the recipient (hi!) won’t be using them to mark books. If you’re a framer vs a book marker, that’s something to let me know during the email.

Spiral Dragon

Spiral Dragon by Amy Crook
Red Sharpie scales cover the entire page, showing through and informing the shapes of everything above them.
Dragons are often identified by their colors. Red and blue make purple, make violet. This dragon has fire in his eyes and ice along his belly.
Is his breath hot or cold? Is that smoke or mist curling from his mouth? Do those spikes cauterize as they pierce, melt the strongest armor or chill it to shattering, or neither, merely sharp, merely tipped in shining red?
Seemingly endless spiral scales are there to protect him, but as Neil Gaiman says, “dragons have one soft spot, somewhere, always.”

Above, you can see the sunlight reflecting off the iridescent sapphire of the dragon’s underbelly, and the way the red Sharpie spirals show through everything. Below, you can see the piece in a frame, just waiting for the perfect wall.
