Bored Without You, Sherlock parody art by Amy Crook

Bored Without You, Sherlock parody art by Amy Crook

No one can do ennui quite like Sherlock, and today’s Valentine is no exception. Perfect for those apart from their beloveds, I even wrote a little poem to go with it:

“Blood spatter’s red,
Corpse lips are blue,
But murders are boring
When I’m without you.”

The wallpaper was drawn by hand on a light table, using a printout of the original pattern for reference, so each little scribbled motif is just a bit different from the rest. Sherlock’s got his stuffed hedgehog to keep him company, but it’s just not the same as having John there with him.

Hello, Sexy! parody Doctor Who fan art by Amy Crook

Hello, Sexy! parody Doctor Who fan art by Amy Crook

Hello, Sexy – Happy New Year! It might seem a little early to start thinking about Valentine’s Day and ways to express your adoration, but trust me, it’ll sneak right up on you in six short weeks. To help alleviate that “how did it get to be February” panic, I’ve got a whole week of Valentine (and unValentine) designs for you, all of which are perfectly good at showing affection (or loathing, in Snape’s case) any other time of the year as well.

Doctor Who is kicking off the week, with the Eleventh Doctor in his bowtie and fez. As we all know from watching The Doctor’s Wife, his secret name for the TARDIS is “Sexy,” though you can offer the sentiment to the geek guy or girl of your choice.

Hello, Sexy! 5″x7″ pen & ink and Copic markers on paper, original nfs (sold).

Today I’m back to art you can’t have because it was for someone else’s Christmas present! And yes, I do give good presents.

For my birthday, this friend pre-ordered the new Dresden Files book for me, and so as part of his Christmas present I drew him up this portrait of a young, sassy Harry Dresden. The book Dresden’s a bit more careworn these days, though not actually any more fashionable, but he hasn’t lost his sense of humor even after all he’s been through. Plus, here he’s got his staff and his blasting rod, because that’s just how he rolls.

Instagram Valentine watercolor by Amy Crook

“I’d Instagram you with no filter.”
Instagram Valentine watercolor by Amy Crook, $79

Despite their recent faux pas, I have to admit I really do enjoy the Instagram photo service. I made a Valentine for it this year, so I’m glad they backpedaled and agreed to make the language a little less awful in their new TOS. The image I painted is of a generic person icon, just a head and shoulders, done in warm terra cotta with a sepia background, on a distressed “photo.”

Instagram Valentine, 7″x5″ pen & ink and watercolor on paper, $79 with free shipping. Or buy a card at Etsy!

Sharing Warmth, Sherlock fan art by Amy Crook

Sharing Warmth, Sherlock fan art by Amy Crook

I sent a Moo card with the main image on it to one of my Sherlock bookmark buyers, and she said she’d never seen it, and sure enough, I’d never posted it. Oops! It’s nicely seasonal now, anyway, with Jack Frost nipping at all sorts of things all over the hemisphere. I really think Sherlock makes it, though, forever interrupting with his own importance.

Christmas Cupboard, Harry Potter fan art by Amy Crook

Christmas Cupboard, Harry Potter fan art by Amy Crook

When I was doing holiday card art this year, I had to do one for Harry Potter, too. He’s got a rather tentacular Christmas tree, but he’s never let things being a bit spooky stop him from enjoying his holidays.

Just remember, the cupboard under the stairs is only for hiding Christmas presents, not little boys.

Christmas Cupboard, 2 – 5″x7″ pen & ink and Copic markers on paper.

I’m happy to write something on the blank space of the cupboard image if you’d like, or you can keep them as is in their frame for a very Potter sort of Christmas.

And here we come to the very end of Bookmark Week with John Watson. He’s leaning against a cool grey wall, and he’s been colored all in warm and cool greys himself, even his face and hair, just like Lestrade yesterday. The skull is grinning white from above, though I admit I didn’t get too enthusiastic and do the wallpaper properly.

If you did want a bookmark of your own, you can check out the ones that are still available here. They make great stocking stuffers!

Above, you can see John leaning shyly against the wall, hoping you’ll like him. Below, he’s hanging out with a book, like bookmarks do.
