Return of the Son of Coloring Book Doodles
Saturday, September 3rd, 2011
I don’t always remember to scan these in after I do them, so it’s been a while since I had any to post. The last few coloring books I’ve sold, I doodled in the tentacles above, and a random silly Sherlock, below.

Son of Weeble
Wednesday, May 4th, 2011
I admit it, I ran out of finished weeble cartoons for my Wednesdays and had to just doodle something up. I started out just drawing up a “blank” weeble – shape of the head and body, arms and hands and feet. The idea of doing a blank-faced one then made me think of Magritte’s Son of Man, and thus I give you Son of Weeble to weird up your Wednesday.
I gave myself the rule of only using pens within reach to shade him, which is why his clothes are a light grey and his skin left paper white. Maybe next time I’ll bring out the Really Useful Box o’ Sharpies before I get started, I’m pretty sure I have a better range of pinks and browns there.

Coloring Book Doodles
Sunday, November 28th, 2010
For most of the buyers of my Cthulhu Coloring Book, I’ve had time to put a little 5-minute sketch in the inside front covers. I remembered to scan most of the doodles before mailing them, so here they are for your to enjoy!

Squid sketch
Saturday, September 11th, 2010
I found this hiding among my old scans today, I believe he was a little sketch I did on a greeting card for a friend. There’s just something fun about drawing the curl and sway of tentacles!

eat ZOMBIE love
Friday, August 13th, 2010
Some days I’d rather make art than an art post — enjoy this mod of my newest tin of tea, and I’m gonna go make a cup and paint. (For the record, I didn’t really want to support the franchise, but it’s Blood Orange Cinnamon tea from my favorite tea people, so I crumbled.)

Pencil Monster #2
Sunday, July 4th, 2010
Here’s the second of my little monsters inspired by the amazing pencil sculptures of Jennifer Maestre. This one makes me think of what might happen if one of Lovecraft’s Moon Beasts got an angora sweater, which is disturbing on a whole different level. Perhaps instead the toothy worm-creature gains mobility by hosting the fuzzy-legged symbiote on its back.
Happy Independence Day, indeed!

Pencil Monster #1
Saturday, July 3rd, 2010
I’m concluding the week of monsters with a pair of sketches (#2 will go up tomorrow) inspired by the amazing pencil sculptures of Jennifer Maestre. This one was specifically inspired by the piece “Chimera,” not an exact match but a little doodled monster of similar lineage. I think it came out with a distinctly Lovecraftian feel, especially once the mouth became an eye and the eyelashes became tentacles. It’s another piece out of my tiny bedside sketchbook, so the original is only a few inches high.
