Horton's Field, watercolor by Amy Crook

Horton's Field, watercolor by Amy Crook

When I first created this background, there were these water spots of yellow in the midst of the zoisite green fog that reminded me of a cluster of Seussian flowers. I went back in with diluted white to highlight those little spots, and then put in ground and stems and a tree that all stuck to that original Dr. Seuss aesthetic. I actually put the tree in last, because the big open golden sky above the flowers seemed to dwarf them, where the tree shelters without taking over.

Above you can see a detail photo of some of the flowers, and the grey-green fog of zoisite they’re trying so very hard to cheerfully peek through. Below, you can see the way it looks framed, adding some bright sunshine yellow to my desk.

King of Cups Sharpie sketch by Amy Crook

This little dude was the last thing I decided on for Sharpie Week, by having my houseguest draw a card from my Medieval Scapini Tarot deck. Then I looked at the intricate, complex drawing and doodled up something far less impressive in my wee sketchbook. King of Cups is the patron of artists, though, so I feel he won’t mind the license.

Twitter has once again given us our theme for the day, this time from @EmperorzNou whose presence there is partially my fault anyway. *cough* He asked for a mutant turtle perhaps in his teens of the ninja variety, or something like that, and thus you have an inexpertly weeble-ified turtle with obligatory pizza.

Mmm, pizza.

Sinister Sharpie sketch by Amy Crook

For Friday the 13th, we have @SFEtsy‘s amusing Twitter suggestion, “something sinister that smells like the black abyss that is Sharpie yet with polka dot galoshes.” Spooky, yet adorable.

Happy Friday the 13th, and lucky weekend!

Sharpie Zombie Vampire Bunny (of Doom)

Zombie Vampire Bunny Sharpie sketch by Amy Crook

This particular Easter horror sticks around to steal your candy and suck all the goo out of Cadbury Creme Eggs. He was suggested by @xquitz on Twitter, when I asked for ideas. I’m particularly fond of his obnoxious color scheme, and the bit of creme dripping out of his gaping maw.

Recipe: Pirate Cocktail

Wednesday, April 11th, 2012

Pirate Cocktal sketch by Amy CrookWhen @skaldheim on Twitter suggested I draw a cocktail for Sharpie Week, I decided to double it up with Words Wednesday and give you a cocktail recipe. I’m all multitasking and efficient and stuff.

  • 1.5 oz golden rum such as Pyrat Pistol, 10 Cane, or Mount Gay Eclipse. No Bacardi. Never Bacardi.
  • 0.5 oz sweet vermouth
  • dash of Angostura bitters
  • cherry (optional)

Measure and serve in a highball over ice. Yarr!

Sharpie Sherlock silliness by Amy Crook

Sharpie Sherlock silliness by Amy Crook

Sharpie Week Redux continues with tentacles! You know I’d never skip your Tuesday tentacles.

This time @wyomingnot on Twitter asked me to draw something related to a fanfic where Sherlock is a genius pastry chef who wants to open an ice cream shop, and John is his faithful sidekick/store manager. The title is I believe the name of the shop, which refers to the ideal ice cream storage temperature in Celsius.

Or something, I don’t know. John! Sherlock! Tentacle Surprise ice cream! Really, do the details matter?
