Prepositioning, an Inception comic by Amy Crook

Prepositioning, an Inception comic by Amy Crook

Sometimes I get dragged into a fandom and it’s instant love, but sometimes a friend will poke and prod and gently tug me toward a fandom for a long, long time before something sticks.

I finally watched Inception for the first time this year, and had to watch it a second time focusing on everything but the main plot to really enjoy it. The setting and secondary characters, however, are an utter delight, which is how we come to this — a typo turned into a terrible pick-up line.

007 + Q = 00Q sketches by Amy Crook

007 + Q = 00Q sketches by Amy Crook

My wonderful $5+ Patreon patrons get to ask for a sketch from me every month, and this time 3 of them left prompts!

Kim asked for Q in a sweater, and so we decided of course on the warm jumper from the Spectre trailer. Then Blaine asked for Bond to go with Q, and I decided on the tactical turtleneck from the promo shots, and their eyes meeting across the boundaries of the sketches. And, of course, posing 007 like a Bond Girl. It’s only fair, really.

Jeff, being of a less shippy mindset, asked for something meta: a drawing of a Minion drawing a Minion.

…And Prosper, Star Trek parody art by Amy Crook

I’m not certain what would cause Spock to want to give his Captain bunny ears with his Live Long and Prosper hand sign, but I’m pretty sure Kirk deserved it. Bones is not impressed, but Bones never is.

Cuppa Rage

Cuppa Rage by Amy Crook

Cuppa Rage by Amy Crook

Almost half of my July was taken up dealing with a tech snafu, which was covered by my extended warranty but still enough to drive me around the bend.

This sharp-edged, boiling cuppa was inspired by the uniquely enraging experience of dealing with terrible tech support that operates off a script with no room for the actual variation of customer experience. The cup itself is a dull, smoldering burgundy with bright orange in the handle and cut-off plane of the top, and a vibrant red inside with the bubbling tea. I gilded the sharp edges at the top and bottom of the cup and along the saucer, the bright spot of not actually murdering anyone.

My tech woes have been solved, but it’s good I had a cuppa to contain my rage.

Above, you can see the shine of gold offset by the virulent orange on the sharp-cut edge of the cup, and the roil of tea inside. Below, the rage has been contained in a frame, ready to receive all the frustration of your Mondays to come.

Devil & Angel bookmarks, Sherlock parody art by Amy Crook

Devil & Angel bookmarks, Sherlock parody art by Amy Crook

I sketched these as my art warm-up about 10 days ago, which turned out to be the day’s entire art output because I then entered printer tech support purgatory. Everything’s under warranty, but I could really stand to have had this fixed sometime last week.

I’m not sure why I felt the need to give Sherlock a tentacle tattoo, but as it looks adorable on him, I don’t think it matters. Horns inspired by a rewatch of Monsters Inc.

Daron, Colin, and Ziggy

Daron, Colin, and Ziggy by Amy Crook

Daron, Colin, and Ziggy by Amy Crook

Daron’s Guitar Chronicles is continuing its summer of fanworks, and I’m easily led, so when someone asked me to draw Colin I couldn’t resist giving him a rock star on each arm. I love how this really shows how short Daron and Ziggy are, but my favorite detail is the little hole in Ziggy’s fishnet shirt, though Daron’s adorable blush is a close second.

The original should show up in the Floating Gallery soon, or you can get these cuties on a card in my Etsy shop.

Training, a Lord of the Rings parody comic by Amy Crook

Training, a Lord of the Rings parody comic by Amy Crook

A delightful little commission for Caroline, who’s responsible for a lot of the Sherlock art I share with you as well. She wanted something that hinted at Aragron having been around the city when Boromir was just a wee thing, though canonically they didn’t meet then.

Poor Boromir’s just be knocked on his tush for the nth time during training, and Aragorn can’t resist getting in a little dig at their age difference.
