Firefly Fairy, sketch 3
Friday, April 15th, 2011
I’ve had a half-finished tiny painting lurking in my studio for a while now, waiting for me to decide just what to paint on it. I wanted to have a fairy with a firefly tail coming to visit a lovely globe thistle, a more fantasy-themed echo of my other thistle tiny painting, but my first two sketches for it weren’t really right. I’m not sure this one quite has what I’m looking for, either, but it’s a step in the right direction.

Weeble Wednesday: Revenge of Son of More Coloring Book Doodles
Wednesday, February 16th, 2011
Happy Wednesday!
I haven’t finished any new proper weebles in a bit, I’m running low on a couple of markers & haven’t had a chance to buy ink refills. These are a couple of doodles I sketched in people’s coloring books for Etsy.

Cartoon Sherlock & John
Friday, February 4th, 2011
I think we all need to accept right now that, for the next while, whenever I’m not sure what to draw for an art post, it’ll be characters from the BBC’s Sherlock. (Also that I’m a serial comma abuser.)
This was done last night about midnight on my teeny tiny bedside sketchbook, as an experiment with drawing some cartoons that were a bit easier to pose than weebles but just as cute and cartoonish. Expect to see a revisit of these two doing ridiculous things in future posts. I just got some new Micron pens, and these seem like they’d be a perfect fit.

Weeble Wednesday: HP Weebles
Wednesday, December 8th, 2010
This is one of the first refine weeble-style drawings I ever did, back a few years ago when I was just perfecting the style. It’s meant to be Kingsley Shacklebolt, Harry Potter & Charlie Weasley, with Kingsley and Charlie showing off their respective awesomenesses to a properly impressed Harry. I’ve always liked the way it came out, from the expressions to the adorable little dragonet. And you can see how these little guys developed into the weebles I draw today.

Alex Benedict
Monday, November 29th, 2010
A few of you might be aware that I’m doing NaNoWriMo this year — it’s my 6th year & 5th win (I passed 50K on the 25th). I haven’t titled this year’s novel yet, but in the inevitability of being an artist writing about the same thing every day, I decided to do a sketch of my main character, Alexander Benedict.
Since I was drawing him as procrastination for actual writing, he’s in the client meeting notebook I use, which is a proper sketchbook that got wet at some point in its life and has warped pages — perfect for taking notes in, not so great for art I want to scan and/or keep later. Oops.
Alex Benedict, 4″x7″ pencil on sketchbook paper, not for sale.

Fairy Studies

Just a couple of sketches I did for a tiny painting I’m working on. I’m still not totally happy with either one, so who knows what the final painting will be like!
