The Death of Me, Too, 1 of 6
Monday, April 1st, 2013
It took me a bit, but I’ve finally finished the sequel to The Death of Me, the 6-panel comic in which Sherlock gets a cold and poor John has to take care of him. The tables are turned, John’s the one that’s ill now, and we get to see how Sherlock fares with his blogger out of commission.
The originals were commissioned by my favorite kiwi, but there will be a print available in my Etsy shop at the end of the week.

Sunday Round-Up & Face Sketch
Sunday, March 31st, 2013
A cheery assortment of smiles and tentacles in this week’s art, starting with Bilbo having tea on Monday. Tuesday brought Doctor Who, and Thursday was a whole wallpaper pattern made of grinning skulls. Friday there was a very cute gift of squid, and on Saturday a pair of adorable squid tied the knot.
And, of course, I have a wee sketch for you! This face came out very narrow indeed, and decidedly skewed to one side, but I rather like him anyway. I really do need to get some new large brush pens, though, mine are both starting to dry up, alas, either that or just work with brush & ink and skip the pen bit entirely.

Tying the Knot
Saturday, March 30th, 2013
These two squid have found love in each other, the blue-eyed green squid and green-eyed blue squid making the perfect pair. They’ve just tied the knot, so congratulate them on their union! Just don’t ask which one’s the boy.
Tying the Knot, 7″x5″ pen & ink and Copic marker on paper.
You can also congratulate your cephalopod-loving friends on their marriage with a card from my Etsy shop.
Above, you can see a close-up of their knotted tentacles. Below, they’ve slipped into a frame and are hanging out with the poor five-armed octopus, and my iPhone of course.

Thank You Squid
Friday, March 29th, 2013
Wouldn’t a gift like this make you want to say “Thank You” to the giver? I mean, really, who wouldn’t want a squid that cute? And the squid of course just wants to be loved and appreciated. It’s even sporting a bright red bow!
Thank You Squid, 5″x7″ pen & ink and Copic marker on paper, $99 with free shipping.
Above is the cheery red bow shining in the sun, on top of the squid’s teal head. The original is a gorgeous bright teal color, which of course no screen will ever reproduce properly. Dammit. Below, he’s hanging out in a frame with an octopus from Ikea. Well, pentapus, really. Ikea’s a bit odd that way.

Skull Paper
Thursday, March 28th, 2013
Another foray into Victorian-style wallpapers with a limited palette, this piece combines loose brushwork with muted, complementary colors. The top copper shade is slightly iridescent, which adds a certain decaying glory to the erratic pattern. It makes me think of a design mouldering away in some abandoned Gothic manor house, the grinning skulls only adding to the haunted gloom of the place.
Skull Paper, 4″x6″ watercolor and iridescent watercolor on Fluid watercolor paper.
Above, you can see the light reflecting off some of the warm copper paint, which is at its darkest and most iridescent in the halos around each skull. Below, you can see the piece in a frame, hanging out on my desk with some other examples of scribbly, imperfect wallpaper.

Eleven’s 1100
Tuesday, March 26th, 2013
The Doctor is unimpressed with boring human age-related angst as well, because it’s a good time to be drawing birthday card art. He’s lived over 1100 years! He’s got his trusty TARDIS to keep him company, anyway, and a bowtie. Bowties are cool.
Eleven’s 1100, 5″x7″ pen & ink and Copic marker on paper, nfs (sold). He’s still available as a card in my Etsy shop.
Above, you can see the sun washing the Doctor red and blue, but bringing out his cheekbones in sharp relief. Below, he’s hanging out in his frame with his TARDIS and a random cephalopod.

Tea at Bag End
Monday, March 25th, 2013
After I drew Second Breakfast and sold the original, I was very sad for the empty spot on my wheat-yellow wall he had once occupied. So, I drew a Bilbo of my very own! He’s having a lovely tea at home in his dressing gown. Bilbo’s very glad to be back in the Shire where a hobbit can get six proper meals a day and enjoy a proper cuppa in comfort.
I’m considering making prints or blank cards, I haven’t decided yet, but his original art is staying here with me.
Tea at Bag End, 5″x7″ pen & ink and Copic marker on paper, nfs (in the collection of the artist).
Above, you can see Reaching Out and Tea at Bag End in their permanent homes, and Skull Paper (which will post later this week) hanging out with them so I can enjoy it while I still have it.
