Get your favorite character put on a pocket journal just for you — or give one as a gift certificate for the holidays. Take notes with Spock, Harry Potter, Sherlock Holmes, or whoever tickles your fancy.
These are available in two styles, the soft pencil sketch or stark Sharpie marker relief, as shown above. One character per journal, please.
Cahier Journals sport a heavy-duty kraft brown cardboard cover, with visible thread stitching on the spine. Inside each journal you’ll find acid-free paper pages and a spacious pocket for notes or clippings. Size: 3.5 x 5.5 in. (9 x 14 cm), 64 plain pages each, last 16 sheets detachable.
Custom Moleskines – $29 apiece, with free first class shipping. Priority Mail shipping is available, or I can send you a pdf gift certificate if you’d like to give one as a gift!
Or read on to see examples of all the ones I’ve done so far (all sold, I’m afraid!). (more…)

Toby
Friday, December 3rd, 2010
Back before I ever did a NaNoWriMo, I briefly considered doing a webcomic — the intensive schedule forces one to really develop a style and refine it quickly, which sounded more appealing than slogging through years more of feeling like an incompetent. In the long run, though, I decided that I just didn’t have the motivation to keep up a comic schedule, shelved the idea and turned it into my very first NaNoWriMo win.
This is Toby, one of the two main characters from Makeshift. It’s one of the first things I ever did using Copic markers, which then languished on my shelf for a long time before I picked them back up and got busy learning the long, hard way to suck less.

Alex Benedict
Monday, November 29th, 2010
A few of you might be aware that I’m doing NaNoWriMo this year — it’s my 6th year & 5th win (I passed 50K on the 25th). I haven’t titled this year’s novel yet, but in the inevitability of being an artist writing about the same thing every day, I decided to do a sketch of my main character, Alexander Benedict.
Since I was drawing him as procrastination for actual writing, he’s in the client meeting notebook I use, which is a proper sketchbook that got wet at some point in its life and has warped pages — perfect for taking notes in, not so great for art I want to scan and/or keep later. Oops.

Zombie Koi
Friday, November 26th, 2010
This cheerful undead fish is just looking for a few scraps of brains left for him — zombies are notoriously sloppy eaters, after all. He’s on the back cover of my Cthluhu Coloring Book (one of the bonus zombies!), and was one I was most looking forward to coloring myself. His tattered flesh glows an eerie green, but his attractive orange-and-white spots still show through in places.

Weeble Wednesday: Yog-Sothoth
Wednesday, November 24th, 2010
If you’re feeling a bit short of time this holiday week, perhaps Yog-Sothoth could help you out — or make it all so much worse. Yog-Sothoth is an Outer God of the Lovecraft mythos, and yet another of the oddling creatures in my Cthulhu Coloring Book. Yog-Sothoth was named The Lurker at the Threshold by Lovecraft, and is considered to be both at one with all of time and space, and outside of it.
My interpretation of his form as “great globes of light” is a bit whimsical, so I decided to use actual watercolor to experiment with his coloring, and had fun working wet-in-wet to get some rather psychedelic effects.
Yog-Sothoth, 5″x7″ pen and ink and watercolor on watercolor paper, $79 with free shipping.

Zombie Bride
Monday, November 22nd, 2010
This lovely lady is another one of the bonus zombies from my Cthulhu Coloring Book. I decided to go for a more blue-toned dead (rather than grey or green), sort of an homage to The Corpse Bride. I had fun adding in some extra details with the coloring, like the bloody handprint on her dress.
