Shiny Dragonair

a shiny pink Dragonair flying about a normal blue Dragonair, Pokemon fan art by Amy Crook

Shiny Dragonair, 7″x5″ pen & ink and Copic marker on paper

Another rare alternate color scheme Pokemon commission for Sekrit Patron! This time we went for double the loveliness of this pretty dragon type with the normal blue and “shiny” pink twined together in draconic curiosity, if not love.

Oh, Brilliant!

Friday, March 23rd, 2018

parody cartoon of the 13th Doctor next to the TARDIS saying, Oh Brilliant!

Oh, Brilliant! 5″x7″ pen & ink and Copic marker on paper

The 13th Doctor has been revealed and I agree with her assessment – Brilliant! She’s got a quirky aesthetic that calls back to previous Doctors while being thoroughly modern, a great smile, and of course her very own TARDIS. I can’t wait to see what becomes of her!

Etsy is having a big sale through March 29, and I’m in on it! Get 15% off the whole shop, no code needed — including this image, which would make a brilliant birthday card if I do say so myself!

Shiny Rowlet

Tuesday, March 20th, 2018

a drawing of the Pokemon Rowlet in its Shiny color scheme, flying and looking happy

Shiny Rowlet, 7″x5″ pen & ink and Copic marker on paper

Another shiny Pokemon! This guy is also a commission, of course — I’m finally getting the hang of drawing them in a dynamic manner, especially after Umbreon last month. The “shiny” refers to a color change, this one’s normally brown and leaf green, but he’s looking pretty spiffing here in his alternate palette.

For the fellow nerds out there, I finally got my first shiny on Dratini Day, mainly because they were everywhere — I ended up with six!

Chinhands and Spittake

Thursday, March 15th, 2018

Arthur from Inception doing the chinhands pose, and Eames doing a spittake in chibi style

Chinhands & Spittake, 7″x5″ pen & ink and Copic marker on paper

More commissions! More Inception! More chibis!

This wonderful person was happy to be led to my list of needed emojis for our Slack, and we chose the chinhands and spit take as ones for her commission. Especially of note are Eames’ purple trackies, and Arthur’s beautiful blush.

Cheerful Helena

Tuesday, March 13th, 2018

Helena from Orphan Black, looking cheerful in a comic style

Cheerful Helena, 5″x7″ pen & ink and Copic marker on paper

The second of my Orphan Black commissions, Helena here is for a birthday card! She’s looking very cheerful and only a little like she might bite, really. Lots of tiny pattern on this one, the plaid on her outfit plus the tiny paisleys on her shirt were a challenge.

My commissions queue is opening up soon, so email me if you want to get on the wait list!

Growth 10

Growth 10, abstract art by Amy Crook

Growth 10, 6″x6″ pen & ink and watercolor on Fluid watercolor paper

This is the first time in the Growth series that we’ve got actual growing things instead of mere seeds. The central core is a warm, inviting mix of earthy browns, and there are even green sprouts curling outward toward the universe, anchored by the rich red roots.

Have you put down roots, or are you still floating in the void, hoping to find something to nurture your growth?

Above, you can see the red-brown roots and green sprouts, as well as the earth-brown seeds and the rich mix of watercolor that make up our growing world. Below, the painting is in its frame, and already trying to outgrow it!

Me Three

Me Three, watercolor horizon by Amy Crook

Me Three, 8″x4″ watercolor on Fluid watercolor paper

A horizon at the edge of day and night. Twisted skeletons of winter trees. Birds flying in the background.

It’s a bit on the nose to call this typical example of my oeuvre “Me Three,” but sometimes the titles pick you.

The sky is a beautiful clear blue shading to the gold of sunrise, and the clouds float above with a mix of golden light and purple shadows. Trees full of character show just a touch of texture in the gleam of morning. A trio of long-necked birds make their way through the morning air.
