The week is nearly at an end, and here we come to our Saturday Morning Cartoon, which is also already spoken for. DI Lestrade’s just leaning against the wall, checking his texts while he waits for something interesting to happen. I colored this one entirely in shades of grey, just like Thinking in Grey but without all the background madness.

Above, you can see the wee bit of warm grey in with all the cool ones, shading Lestrade’s otherwise white face and hand. Below, I put him with a book, just because I could.

Skeleton Bookmark

Thank goodness it’s Friday! Normally this sketchy little dude would go on Sunday, but this time I had two bookmarks sell before writing the posts, so I thought I’d save those for the weekend. That’s right, this is the last of the bookmarks for the week you can actually buy! Or you can click here to see all the available bookmarks in one easy spot.

Above you can see his grinning face up close and personal. Below, he’s hanging out on a book to show you just how slender a skeleton can be, when he’s a bookmark, anyway.

Spirals and bubbles and Qs, oh, my! It’s a queue of Qs rising up, large and small, with curly double tails and a whole lot of whimsy. This one’s small but nice and sturdy, drawn on a bit of comic backing board so it’s even acid-free.

Octopus Bookmark 1
by Amy Crook
After Tentacle Tuesday is.. Tentacle Wednesday? Well, there were just a lot of tentacles this week, I guess. This little octopus is a bit leery of something below him, and is heading up out of the pink-tinged depths and into the light. The paper itself is a soft, subtle green, and the pink paint turns a subtle violet at certain angles. The octopus is just himself, though.

Jellyfish Bookmark 3 by Amy Crook
Tentacle Tuesday has returned! This whimsical little jellyfish is done in three shades of shimmering watercolor, purple and pink floating in a lovely aqua-gold ocean. This bookmark is on nice thick watercolor paper with one edge tapering off to the natural deckle from the papermaking process. Not my process, of course, but the manufacturer’s.

It’s Bookmark Week again, the last one for the year! I think that a bookmark-sized piece of original art makes a wonderful holiday gift idea or stocking stuffer, don’t you?
We’ll start the week off with a sliver of a moon hiding half out of sight, with swirling, iridescent mist curling through the black sky. The mist is a color called “duochrome hibiscus” which wavers between a violet-ish blue and fuchsia, and definitely took on the bluer tone here.

The Brothers Holmes: The Later Years, part 6 of 6

The Brothers Holmes: The Later Years, part 6 of 6, comic by Amy Crook
If there’s one thing in the world the Holmes brothers can agree on, it’s that John’s fashion sense is a sartorial crime. I couldn’t imagine doing these comics without John making at least an appearance, and it felt appropriate for his awful brown suit from The Great Game to be the source of a single moment of brotherly accord. And an excellent note on which to end the series!
If you’d like, you can read them all over again here. Or, get your very own prints here in the Sherlock section of my Etsy shop. My wonderful patron, Caroline, commissioned the originals, but she’s willing to share!
