Frankenstein’s Monster + Heart by Amy Crook
I colored up one of the monsters for my upcoming Monster Heart Coloring Book for next year! This is Frankenstein’s Monster, and his heart. He’s an awfully charming monster, I sort of imagine he’d say, “How you doin’?” if he could talk.
These are actually two separate pieces that go together. The coloring book will have all-new art in it, and I’m having a ton of fun with the hearts and weebles. I mean, who knew Cthulhu could make puppy eyes? But you’ll have to wait a bit to see that. 😉

Chibi Zombie Girl

Chibi Zombie Girl by Amy Crook
For Christmas Eve, also known as Zombie Yule Eve by certain people (you know who you are), I give you the very last bonus zombie from my Cthulhu Coloring Book. Starting next week, you’ll be spammed with images from my new coloring book, instead!
This style is called “chibi” or “super deformed” Japanese manga and anime artists — the giant head and body that’s 1-2 heads high, that is, not the crazy-eyed zombie part. It’s one of the styles I offer when Cartoonifying people, so I decided to do a zombie example, because really, who hasn’t wanted to be a cartoon zombie?
I’ve had a lot of fun coloring my various zombies, too. She’s done in a very soft blue with shading in grey, where the severed head she’s keeping for a snack later is done in a pale pale flesh tone with shadows in two shades of blue. Her lips are a nice blue, as well, and her sharp, sharp teeth have just a hint of blood on them.

Weeble Wednesday: Shoggoth

Weeble Shoggoth by Amy Crook
Shoggoth here is the last of my Lovecraft monsters from the Cthulhu Coloring Book, although I do still have one lonely bonus zombie yet to be colored. He’s a shapeshifting, blob-like horror, drawn on a rather grand scale when you see that he’s about to have a little snack out of the poor guy he managed to catch.
My Shoggoth design is loosely based on Mythos canon, and very influenced by the Shoggies in the webcomic Unspeakable Vault (of Doom). In fact, if you’re feeling a bit lost about all these strange monsters, that’s a great place to learn a little bit about them with a lot of humour. Personally, I learned most of it playing Arkham Horror.

Weeble Wednesday: Hound of Tindalos

Weeble Hound of Tindalos by Amy Crook
I’ve colored my second-to-last monster from the Cthulhu Coloring Book (though there’s also one bonus zombie left)! This is the Hound of Tindalos, a Lovecraft creation who is said to stalk time travelers like a hound once it gets their scent. He can appear anywhere there is an angle of less than 120 degrees, and here he’s slipping out of a corner to play fetch with you! Clearly you would never do something so naughty as to time travel, so you have nothing to fear from this gruesomely cute beast.
If you play Arkham Horror, you already know about this guy — he’s always one of the monsters that gets an unhappy groan when he appears out of the monster cup in our group.

Toby
Friday, December 3rd, 2010
Back before I ever did a NaNoWriMo, I briefly considered doing a webcomic — the intensive schedule forces one to really develop a style and refine it quickly, which sounded more appealing than slogging through years more of feeling like an incompetent. In the long run, though, I decided that I just didn’t have the motivation to keep up a comic schedule, shelved the idea and turned it into my very first NaNoWriMo win.
This is Toby, one of the two main characters from Makeshift. It’s one of the first things I ever did using Copic markers, which then languished on my shelf for a long time before I picked them back up and got busy learning the long, hard way to suck less.

Zombie Koi
Friday, November 26th, 2010
This cheerful undead fish is just looking for a few scraps of brains left for him — zombies are notoriously sloppy eaters, after all. He’s on the back cover of my Cthluhu Coloring Book (one of the bonus zombies!), and was one I was most looking forward to coloring myself. His tattered flesh glows an eerie green, but his attractive orange-and-white spots still show through in places.

Zombie Bride
Monday, November 22nd, 2010
This lovely lady is another one of the bonus zombies from my Cthulhu Coloring Book. I decided to go for a more blue-toned dead (rather than grey or green), sort of an homage to The Corpse Bride. I had fun adding in some extra details with the coloring, like the bloody handprint on her dress.
