Cloud Skimming 2
Wednesday, June 8th, 2016
Believe it or not, the beautiful blue-to-gold shimmering paint in these clouds is the same one that provides the gorgeous green in Marble Pathways. The angle and quality of light combines with the paint below to give it a range of beautiful shining colors.
The three crows skim the clouds above and below with their dark wings, stirring the pale mist with their black feathers. The sun glows in the sky behind them, bringing violet dusk as it leaves in a fiery display of light.
Above, you can see the gold-to-blue color shift in the shimmering clouds. Below, those same shining spirals have almost vanished as the frame is angled away from the sun.

Cuppa Warmth
Saturday, June 4th, 2016
You may not be in the mood for anything else hot, but this cup of warmth looks cosy and inviting enough to change your mind! The round ceramic looks like a fluffy marshmallow full of cocoa, just waiting for the perfect warm sip on a cold day.
This newest addition to the Cuppa series is a bit out of season, but calls to mind crisp winter afternoons and the feeling of coming inside after an exhilarating romp in the snow. And isn’t that a feeling we could all use a bit more of this June?
Above, you can see a close-up of the delicate toasted-marshmallow color and the cheerful tag. Below, the cuppa is tucked in a frame, just waiting for the seasons to turn.

Sycamore Sunset
Friday, June 3rd, 2016
This Horizons painting has an intense sky full of fast-moving clouds backlit by the glow of the setting sun. The deciduous trees echo the maples and sycamores of my childhood, leaves bare for now but promising new green when spring arrives.
As with the first painting, this one feels a little out of season, but sometimes we long for the weather that makes our heart sing. In this case, you can dream of crisp autumn days with the crunch of leaves underfoot instead of the first hot breath of summer still bearing the pollen of spring.
Above, you can see the intense gold of sun shining through the earthy orange clouds, with just a touch of lace-like branches peeking into the frame. Below, the painting is in its own frame, a small beauty ready to fit on your desk, in a nook, or on a shelf.

Arthur and Eames bookmarks
Thursday, May 12th, 2016
I actually drew these ages ago for a commission, with grumpy Arthur glaring at a smirking Eames, but due to a hiccup with my scanner and some subsequent fighting with Photoshop, I didn’t get around to posting them.
Eames’ shirt has a lovely pattern in the orange, and his coat suggests a hint of tweed. Arthur’s wearing an elegant windowpane check, subtly patterned tie in a complementary grey, and a cream shirt that sets off his scowl.

Tea: Molly Hooper
Thursday, April 28th, 2016
One of my favourite patrons commissioned me to draw a series of 4 little comic portraits of her favourite characters with their favourite teas. Favourites all around!
This last piece in the Tea Series features the adorkable Molly Hooper, the pathologist from whose morgue Sherlock keeps borrowing all manner of unpleasant items. She’s got a soothing cup of Darjeeling, probably to help her nerves after one of Sherlock’s visits.

Tea: Lestrade
Thursday, April 21st, 2016
One of my favourite patrons commissioned me to draw a series of 4 little comic portraits of her favourite characters with their favourite teas. Favourites all around!
This third piece in the Tea Series features DI Lestrade from the BBC Sherlock series. The put-upon detective inspector needs a strong, bracing cup of Assam to help him keep up with Sherlock’s antics.

Tenebrific
Tuesday, April 19th, 2016
One of my lovely Patreon patrons asked for this word as her art prompt this month, and so I used it for last Wednesday’s word art.
In anime, when misfortune has come to a character they draw blue lines from their hairline down their face to show it, and this lovely lovely violet-black Japanese watercolor echoes that by drawing down the gloom in long lines. The figure below is in the blue-black from the same palette, ghostly and gloomy, carrying its own darkness within.
If you want art made just for you, you can support me on Patreon — request your own sketches for as little as $5 a month!
