Dragonfly Airship
Thursday, July 7th, 2016
This is the first of the end-of-gallery Airship series that really gelled in a beautiful, detailed way. The gorgeously patterned dragonfly wings work with the body of the ship. The windows on the body imply a fascinating sense of scale. The ornamentation hovers somewhere between the whimsy of steampunk and the sleekness of retro-futurism, with the flower-petal propeller adding the final touch of whimsy.
This painting is perfect for sparking the imagination, sending your mind on short flights of fancy to keep your day floating along peacefully.
Above, you can see a detail of the painted pattern, evoking without copying a firefly’s delicate wings. Below, the art is sitting in a frame, just waiting to fly off to its new home.

Tea Shelf
Sunday, July 3rd, 2016
Cup, cup, cat, cup, cup, tin.
Whimsy and tea, what more could you want? This delightful little watercolor shows a shelf of goodies, from a beautiful celadon teacup and saucer to a cheerfully antisocial mug. The gloved “hands” that hold up the shelf add to the delight, especially with a wee mouse sleeping happily in one of them. The sleeping-cat figurine might be my favorite part.
What’s yours?
Above, you can see the mug that I really do need to get made, and the adorable sly grey kitty figurine next to it. Below, the piece is in its temporary frame, showing off before it gets whisked away to its new home.

Goldilocks
Thursday, June 23rd, 2016
The collector that bought Mercy House thought it had a Three Bears feel to it, and asked for a Goldilocks commission to go with it. It has the same feeling of abstract greenery, but shot through this time with light instead of darkness, the gold of the girl’s hair bouncing around her in sunlight among the leaves as she strolls through the forest. Everything has a soft, surreal feeling to it, suitable to this classic fairy tale.

Ambivalence
Tuesday, June 21st, 2016
Another Patreon sketch, today we have some mixed feelings about bow ties. Are they really cool? Eleven isn’t so certain, but his confidence will perk up again soon, I have no doubt. Perhaps the TARDIS will reassure him once it arrives on the scene.

Palimpsest
Tuesday, June 14th, 2016
This week’s word art is a request from Kim, one of my lovely Patreon supporters. As soon as I saw her request, I actually went and washed an old piece of art I wasn’t happy with, getting most of the paint off but leaving the ghostly blue world behind. Paper doesn’t recycle quite as well as parchment, but there wasn’t too much blurring with the strong Sharpie marker, though you can see some in the green vines on the upper left there.
If you’d like to see your own favourite word reinterpreted, consider becoming a patron! For a mere $5 you could get your request fulfilled.

Cloud Skimming 2
Wednesday, June 8th, 2016
Believe it or not, the beautiful blue-to-gold shimmering paint in these clouds is the same one that provides the gorgeous green in Marble Pathways. The angle and quality of light combines with the paint below to give it a range of beautiful shining colors.
The three crows skim the clouds above and below with their dark wings, stirring the pale mist with their black feathers. The sun glows in the sky behind them, bringing violet dusk as it leaves in a fiery display of light.
Above, you can see the gold-to-blue color shift in the shimmering clouds. Below, those same shining spirals have almost vanished as the frame is angled away from the sun.

Cuppa Warmth
Saturday, June 4th, 2016
You may not be in the mood for anything else hot, but this cup of warmth looks cosy and inviting enough to change your mind! The round ceramic looks like a fluffy marshmallow full of cocoa, just waiting for the perfect warm sip on a cold day.
This newest addition to the Cuppa series is a bit out of season, but calls to mind crisp winter afternoons and the feeling of coming inside after an exhilarating romp in the snow. And isn’t that a feeling we could all use a bit more of this June?
Above, you can see a close-up of the delicate toasted-marshmallow color and the cheerful tag. Below, the cuppa is tucked in a frame, just waiting for the seasons to turn.
