Cthulhu’s Gift by Amy Crook
I’ve been working on holiday cards again this week, and Cthulhu really wants you to like his gift. I decided to make a rather generic gift for the original, and then I drew a page of holiday dingbats — including a delightfully gruesome spike bow of a sort I’ve actually bought and put on gifts myself (minus the blood).

The original is, of course, the first version, since this one exists courtesy of Photoshop, but I find I’m rather fond of his baubles. I want a tentacle glass ornament!
This is what he looks like in a frame, though the original won’t be framed unless the buyer requests it for an additional fee.

Sherlock bookmark by Amy Crook
This little scrap of paper is nice thick Arches cover black, and should stand up to being used as a bookmark, though I suspect the soft edges will get a bit softer over time. Basically I was tearing some 5″x5″ squares and I had this little 1″ strip left so I decided to draw a contemplative Sherlock.

Just a little pen-and-ink portrait — I’m practicing a few things about observation and not being able to erase. I did a little tiny bit of tinkering in Photoshop, I will admit, but in the end it only sort of looks like the character. Which, really, given that I’ve got little practice doing portraits or working in pen-and-ink, is pretty much okay.
Maybe the next one will be more awesome.

Triskaidekaphobia

Triskaidekaphobia by Amy Crook, $313
Unlike most of my abstract pieces, this one got its name when it was just barely begun. Thirteen green spirals adorned this odd-sized bit of sample paper, and something about the pattern just suggested its name to me. It’s even a bit ironic, since 13’s one of my lucky numbers (what? sometimes a girl’s gotta embrace the cliche).
I used the gorgeously graining Lunar Black that you’ll see in all 3 of this week’s abstract pieces to create the richly textured background, though there’s even a little bit of Bloodstone snuck in that’s nearly invisible except in strong light. The black is very matte, which sets off the subtle shine of the salt crystals beautifully.

Up close you can see the dense, velvety black creeping in around the clusters of sparkling salt pools.

Sorry about the silence, I wasn’t feeling well at the end of last week. So, we’re starting the week with a Weeble!
April’s Army is an Etsy Street Team of fans of the site Regretsy.com. Every month, they take donations and open up the April’s Army Etsy shop with all manner of wacky crafts. This is my first contribution, the incomparable April Winchell (also known as Helen Killer on the site) done up in her most “whimsicle” finery and cartooned as a weeble.
I’m donating 5 cards and the original, because what says “I’m thinking of you” better than weeble fuckery?
