Scribble Goth

Ditzy Bones fabric print by Amy Crook

Ditzy Bones fabric print by Amy Crook

Friday is for fabric! At least this one is. I’ve created a line of fabrics over at Spoonflower called Scribble Goth, made up of scribbly skulls, spikey stripes and even one lone ditzy print of teeny tiny bones.

I haven’t made all of these designs available for purchase yet, because there’s a small but significant cost associated with doing so (it adds up!). If you’d like to buy one of these fabrics for your own projects, just let me know (comment here! contact there! email! twitter! whatever works for you, really) and I’ll buy a swatch for myself so you can get sewing. I’m even willing to make other colorways, if you’d like a blood red skirt or some Halloween orange pajamas.

I’ve also made a version of the above border that’s got the rest of the fabric covered in the polka dots below.

I’ve got a trio of stripes using the spikey cross from the border, though I only put two of them in the post.

And my favorite of all the patterns, a different sort of polka dot with the skulls arranged in florets.

Pumpkinhead cartoon by Amy Crook

Weeble Pumpkinhead by Amy Crook

Just a little something spooky to celebrate the coming of autumn! I was in a Halloweeny mood, so I drew this guy up in an afternoon and colored him in the evening, once the day cooled off. We’re having an end-of-summer heat wave here in the bay area, and it’s slowing me way down, so I cheered myself up with a bit of spooky goodness.

Weeble Pumpkinhead, 5.5″x8.5″ pen & ink and Copic markers on sketchbook paper, not for sale.

Evil Fishie sketch by Amy Crook

Evil Fishie sketch by Amy Crook

I managed a sketch for Saturday, whee! I realized that a lot of what I sketch is the preliminary drawings for things I’d rather post finished, so that’s why I never seem to have any sketches for my Saturday posts. This guy seems rather Lovecraftian to me, perhaps I can do a properly inked version of him of I do another coloring book sometime.

Zombie Coloring

Zombie Coloring, cartoon by Amy Crook

Zombie Coloring by Amy Crook

This is thus far the only piece of art I’ve actually finished for my Zombie Family Coloring Book project. Somehow, I just don’t have it in me to draw that many zombies in a row. Who knew?

Still, I’m very pleased with this girl, from her Watchmen t-shirt and bloody, matching socks to her very special crayon holder. Perhaps if I give myself a whole year, I’ll manage a book’s worth of zombies by next Mother’s/Father’s day. Heh.

Deplorable Figurine

Deplorable Figurine, sketch by Amy Crook

Deplorable Figurine by Amy Crook

This morbid little doll started as a midnight sketch, just a few loose lines and the name scrawled on the page. It took me a few weeks to get back and fill in her tiny hands, stitched-together body, and the extra-creepy details on her face. Though I never went quite this far, I totally used to draw elaborate eyeliner designs on myself when I was an earnest young Goth. Ah, the olden days, when I gave a crap enough to wear makeup.

Shrinky Dinks 1

Shrinky Dinks, set 1, by Amy Crook

Shrinky Dinks, set 1, by Amy Crook

Do you remember Shrink Dinks? I had forgotten all about them until I ran across the Klutz Press book on them, which of course I bought, and then proceeded to store away for years with my art supplies. Well, today is the day they finally got put to use.

I used about 1/3 of a sheet for these guys, and wow, they got soooo wee. Seriously, I was somehow not expecting them to shrink quite so much, but I have future wicked plans for making more. Here you can see them with a dime for size comparison — on my screen, they’re actually larger than they are in real life.

Dark-colored Sharpies are still quite dark on the semi-transparent plastic, though you can see the colors clearly above with the lights shining through. I’m definitely going to have to experiment with some more of these, and then figure out how to price them and what for. Perhaps a set of ninja stitch markers? Zombie zipper pulls? Cthulhu on a cord for a necklace?

Weeble Wednesday: Bride of Frankenstein

Bride of Frankenstein cartoon by Amy Crook

Bride of Frankenstein by Amy Crook

I’ve finally colored the very last bonus bride from my Monster Heart Coloring Book. She was so simple to do, I’m not sure why I put her off — just some very subtle light shading and her red-black lipstick and pale skin, really. She makes a lovely companion to Frankenstein’s Monster, and I’m sure he’s eager to give her his heart. Her eyes are even the same green that tinges most of his patchwork skin.

Bride of Frankenstein, 5″x7″ pen and ink and Copic Markers on watercolor paper, $69 with free shipping.
