Windswept 2
Thursday, February 5th, 2015
Stormy skies give the color scheme of Autumn to this second Windswept watercolor. There’s a lone figure at the bottom trudging past the trees, leaning into the wind, just trying to get where they’re going.
If only they’d look up, they might see the color all around them, but sometimes we get so focused on our journey we forget to see the world we’re traveling through.
On the other hand, windblown leaf bits in your eyes suck, so I don’t really blame them.
Sometimes, life is like that.

Sunset Silhouette 2
Tuesday, February 3rd, 2015
I was walking home the other day and I spotted one of these trees, and I had to go google and find out what species they were. It turns out it’s actually a pruning technique so I still don’t know (I am abysmal at tree identification, seriously), but I had fun looking at photos and drawing this one.
There’s a pair of birds here, but are they friends or foes? I have a story in my head, but I like the ambiguity of it. Is the second bird coming to join the first one and hang out, or to eat him?
Either way, I’m quite fond of the way the landing bird’s wings came out, silhouetted against the pink-orange-gold of the sunset clouds, with the deep orange sun just peeking up above the horizon, reluctant to leave the earth entirely.

Ocean Waves
Monday, February 2nd, 2015
Although it’s not named in series, this painting is definitely a relative of my previous Splash watercolors.
I asked my list whether this painting ought to be waves or a beach, and the overwhelming vote was for waves.
There’s a splash and sploosh, the blue on top of the endless deep aqua, the white above it all like foam. There’s also just a hint of shine hiding here and there that only shows up when the sun hits it just right.
If you want the warm memory of the ocean there on your desk or your wall, this is the perfect painting for you.

Adventuring
Thursday, January 29th, 2015
This is one of those pieces of art that will make perfect sense to about 3 people in the world, and confuse everyone else. Fortunately it’s in the hands of one of those 3, so all is well.
Four friends are going on an adventure! The otter excitedly running off ahead, the hedgehog trudging determinedly behind, with the silver fox and dignified cat in the middle.

No Hugs 2
Tuesday, January 27th, 2015
I’ve visited this theme before, but this time a lovely patron commissioned me to draw the objectionable huggers as well! Ten and Eleven both think a three-Doctor reunion is an occasion for hugs, but Twelve is having none of it.
This also sneaks into my theme from last week by being an excellent anti-Valentine.

Daron and Ziggy
Sunday, January 25th, 2015
I’m finishing out my week of Valentines with a couple of literal (if fictional) rock stars!
I’ve done art for Daron’s Guitar Chronicles before, and this time I decided to echo (though not copy) a famous David Bowie pose for my two favorite on-again, off-again rock stars. They’re definitely on again here, with Ziggy firmly ensconced between and wrapped around Daron’s legs.
