Harvest Moon 5
Thursday, June 7th, 2018
Today’s beautiful golden moon silhouettes three great blue herons against its warm glow.
The stars have a little sparkle to them, but the sky is a flat, swirling velvety grey nestling them like little droplets of molten gold.
Any moon that’s close to the horizon will look orange, but those autumnal full moons that presage the season of crunchy leaves and spooky ghosts have a special sort of mystique to them. You never know what you’ll see, whether it’s a bird or a bat, a swirl of fallen leaves — or a ghost.
Above, you can see one of the cranes in closer detail, a dark blot of feathers and grace against the bright moon. Below, the moon is captured in a frame, just waiting to become a part of your sky.

Old Blue Eyes
Monday, June 4th, 2018
The King is dead, long live the king! Old Blue Eyes here is ready to rule even in the tender grip of death — is he a lich or a ghost, or leader of the skeleton army?
Or perhaps he’s a she, a queen of the undead with her spirit shining out of her eye sockets with as much fierceness as ever.
What story would you give to this clever creature?
Above, you can see the shine of the crown and the subtler blue glow of the eyes on this strange skull. Below, the painting’s resting in a frame, just waiting on the next chapter of their story.

Cracks in the System
Monday, March 5th, 2018
Who and what falls through the cracks in the system, especially now that it seems like everything’s falling apart?
This piece is inspired by a friend’s cracked phone screen and the light that shines through anyway, the places where bits had dropped completely away, and the very strange sensation of running your fingers over the broken glass. It’s got seven little pops of bright gold to catch the light, to give a little hope that even when the system is cracked, some things still work.
Above, you can see two of the shining gold spaces and some of the fine linework up close. Below, the piece is in a frame, fortunately sans cracked glass.

Negative Space 2
Thursday, December 7th, 2017
This painting is a love letter to imperfection, uniqueness, and letting those differences shine.
Each detail is exquisitely small, the silver paint filling in the spaces where the zen circle had voids, shining out of what had been nothingness and drawing you in.
It’s like two-dimensional kintsugi, taking what was a flaw and making it the most strikingly beautiful part of the final object.
It would be perfect to meditate on, or to serve as a reminder that where some see flaws, others see beauty.
Where would it fit in your life?
Above, you can see the softness of the paper, the subtlety of the mineral color and the bright shine of silver in the places left behind. Below, the art is in a frame, just waiting to add some beauty and zen to your day.

Dragon Spiral
Saturday, December 2nd, 2017
This fierce dragon has fire in her eyes and ice in her scales. She’s spiralling downward in near-abstract swishes of amethyst, graphite, and interference blue.
Do you need to be reminded of your own fierceness?
This is one of those pieces that’s most beautiful in person, where you can turn the page this way and that and catch the highlights and shadows, pulling out details that are otherwise invisible.
Above, you can see the dragon turned so her fiery eyes and brilliant scales catch the light. Below, she’s tucked into a frame, just waiting to fly to her new home.

Moon Dog
Tuesday, November 7th, 2017
This whimsical puppy is playing fetch with the moon. He has a belly full of stars and wide, liquid eyes, and just wants to bring something beautiful into your life.
The moon and stars have a shine to them of gold and silver paint, and there’s a nebula of splashing paint all around this moon dog.
This is a somewhat larger painting, and would look beautiful matted and framed in a child’s room.
Above, you can see the moon shining in the light, and the stars like freckles along his cute puppy cheeks. Below, the puppy is leaping joyfully through his frame, just waiting to find his forever home.

Hurtling Through the Void
Saturday, November 4th, 2017
A pockmarked planetoid hurtles through the nothingness of space in this subtle, fascinating mixed media work. Reds and golds ride on the velvety charcoal background, and a subtle debossing effect makes the corona and tail of this coment seem to disappear.
This painting is perfect for someone who likes to be surprised, to find the hidden details in a seemingly simple image, to imagine their own narrative in abstract art.
Who do you know like that in your life?
Above, you can see the divots left by the ink pen and the way the red ink catches the light in chameleon colors. Below, the frame makes a portal to some outer space where you can watch asteroids go by at your leisure.
