Fetch the Cultist
Thursday, April 24th, 2014
The Hound of Tindalos is one of the most evil, annoying monsters to draw while playing Arkham Horror, and so of course I wanted to draw one being adorable. He’s playing fetch the cultist with Cthulhu! I’m sure the one he’s brought is only slightly chewed.
There’s not actually any real description of the hound in the books, it’s only called that because once it gets a time traveler’s scent, it will follow him through space and time like a hunting hound.
My idea is cuter.
Fetch the Cultist, 5″x7″ pen & ink and Copic marker on paper. You can get him in black & white in my Cthulhu Holiday Fun Book, or pick up the original during May’s Floating Gallery.

Palaloolali!
Wednesday, April 23rd, 2014
In my continued quest to get ridiculous birthday cards in all my favorite fandoms, I have a Minion for you! He’s either giving you a gift and a banana, or stealing the banana out of your gift — what do you think, sweet or despicable?
For the record, the Minion “translation” is from ye olde googles, so I have no idea if it’s correct or not, but it’s cute so I went with it.
Palaloolali! 5″x7″ pen & ink and Copic marker on paper. The original will be in May’s Floating Gallery, or you can get a card at any time from my Etsy shop.

Headbanging Hair
Tuesday, April 22nd, 2014
I’ve been reading Daron’s Guitar Chronicles for years now, and finally this year for Cecilia Tan’s birthday, Daron got into my head and convinced me to draw a picture of him. It’s not entirely canon-accurate — the shirt with Ziggy’s handprint is supposed to be a different color, with the handprint in black hair dye, but I liked the red. And the guitar has about as much in common with Daron’s actual guitar as stick figures to humans, so, you know. Although, next time I draw a stringed instrument, I’m going to pull out my tiny Micron pens for the strings, brush pens are just not suited, at least in my wobbly fingers.
DGC is a story about being gay and in the closet in the late ’80s and early ’90s – and a rock star. The second big fat omnibus book is coming out via Kickstarter pretty soon, so if that sounds like something you’d enjoy, you can get both books or just go read it online for free.

Doubly Logical
Thursday, April 10th, 2014
After I drew this birthday card for Tara, I wanted something similar for my Etsy shop, but not exactly the same. I decided to double down on the Spock and add in Spock Prime with a bonus pair of Vulcan salutes. Live Long and Prosper, indeed!
The original sold to my Patron’s List about two seconds after I sent out the email — the advantage of living in the future for my Asian & Aussie people is that they get my midnight emails at a reasonable hour. But you can still get on a greeting card at Etsy, complete with birthday felicitations!

Lurker in the Depths
Sunday, April 6th, 2014
Most of this seahorse is pale, like a creature evolved in a place where there’s little to no light, but his fin is decorated with a rather morbid splash of red. His eye swirls with yellow and white, making him look blind. He lurks in the swirling waters next to a barnacle-bedecked skull.
Despite all these rather ghoulish details, there’s an adorable sort of whimsy to him. Go figure.

Above, you can see some of the subtle detail in the seahorse, his creepy yellow-tinged eye and the blue shadows on his pale body. Below, you can see him in a frame, hanging out with a squid.

Burglar
Saturday, April 5th, 2014
Amidst the piles of shining gold, Bilbo Baggins is caught by the mighty red dragon, Smaug. But it’s not the Arkenstone that Smaug’s worried about — instead, he says, “Burglar, you’ve stolen my heart.” I suppose Bilbo should be glad he’s not lunch, though I’m not sure how he’s going to get out of this one.
Burglar, 7″x5″ pen & ink and Copic marker on paper. The original is sold, but you can get a card to send to your own heart-stealing hobbit here.

The Silence
Tuesday, April 1st, 2014
It’s really hard to make a creepy, mouthless monster adorable, but I think I’ve done a creditable job. The puppy eyes help. He’s trying to explain how he managed to forget your birthday, but you’ll forget he wished you “Happy Birthday” as soon as you look away, anyway.
The Silence, 5″x7″ pen & ink and Copic marker on paper. Get him on a card at Etsy.
