Cartoon: Linda Esposito, version 2
Tuesday, August 24th, 2010
When Linda and I talked about colors for her cartoons, she asked for greens and olives to match her website, but she added a little postscript saying that if she had her way, it’d be eggplant and tangerine! So I suggested we do one of each, since she’d already decided to keep both.
I had this great light orange marker that made the couch surprisingly warm and inviting, especially when we added the rusty orange and blood red pillows, but managed to be subdued enough not to overwhelm the figure entirely. I gave it nice dark wood to frame it, and then Linda herself got to wear the deep purpley-blue that was as close as I had to a proper eggplant.
All in all, though it’s the same person, her first cartoon will serve her well on her website and in a more professional capacity, while this one gives her something fun and unexpected that still has ‘her’ written all over it.

Cartoon: Linda Esposito, version 1
Monday, August 23rd, 2010
When the wonderful Linda Esposito of Talk Therapy Biz took me up on getting herself turned into a cartoon, I’m pretty sure she didn’t expect to get two! The one she asked for was the one above, something in greens and browns with a professional feel to it to complement her site. When I was actually doing her sketch, I couldn’t find her email at first with the pose request, so I doodled up an entirely different cartoon of her (I’ll post that one tomorrow) before digging up the “right” pose.
I couldn’t resist showing her both ideas, though, and I was thrilled when she decided to get cartooned twice! She’s been wonderfully patient with this summer’s mad delays, and I’m really happy that she’s finally got her cartoons to show for it.

Weeble Wednesday: Delta
Wednesday, August 11th, 2010
Yet another of my friends who I weeble-ified, Delta’s got a weakness for blank books like many of us but she actually fills hers with regular journaling. She loves snakes as well, hence the t-shirt (she’s not-so-secretly a Slytherin at heart).
If you’re enjoying these weebles, remember that you, too, can be a cartoon for just $79.

Weeble Wednesday: Isidore
Wednesday, August 4th, 2010
Yet another of my buddies, Isidore is wearing her Hufflepuff colors in her weeble. I went for an argyle sweater and saddle shoes to spiff up her simple jeans, and of course had to add in a book on one of her favorite subjects, the British royal family.

Potions Accident
Saturday, July 31st, 2010
By now I’m sure it’s obvious I’m a big fan of the Harry Potter books, so I thought I’d post another little drawing I did. The cheap paper made the Copic markers bleed a little more than usual, but I like the effect in the eerie magic flame under Harry’s cauldron.

Weeble Wednesday: Ruby
Wednesday, July 28th, 2010
Continuing with friends of mine, this week we have my friend Ruby. She secretly loves the color pink, so I used my markers to good effect, and show her playing with her favorite toy at the time, her Nintendo DS (she cheats on it with her iPhone now). It was fun doing drawings of my friends, because I could really load up on the props — she’s also got a rose (that goes with her username), and her special walking shoes.
If you like these, remember that you, too, can be a cartoon for just $79.

Weeble Cthulhu

Weeble Cthulhu by Amy Crook
As promised, I’m reposting Weeble Cthulhu from earlier this year so he’s hiding in amongst my daily art for those seeking out my (so far rather small) series of Lovecraftian weebles. He’s got his pet Shoggoth with him with his bowl of cultist snacks and everything.
I made a greeting card out of him for Valentine’s Day that said, “Cthulhu wanted to give you a heart, but they were all too small and squishy.” They sold so well I took off the “Happy Valentine’s Day” and have left them up on the shop ever since.
Weeble Cthulhu, 4″x6″ pen and ink and Copic markers on a watercolor postcard.
