Osculate! Doctor Who fan art by Amy Crook

Osculate! Doctor Who fan art by Amy Crook

I meant to finish and post this last week after the Floating Gallery closed, by my body had other ideas. I’ve had a horrible head cold, and slept through most of the week. I’m only just recovering, so please do forgive the lateness of this Dalek.

He’s giving up his usual cry of “exterminate” in favor of some holiday spirit! Osculate means “kiss,” so he’s just demanding you give him his due and kiss a Dalek under the mistletoe. I’m sure it won’t kill you.

Well, mostly sure.

Osculate! 5″x7″ pen & ink and Copic marker on paper. Get him on a holiday card at my Etsy shop!

Wibbly Wobbly Timey Wimey, Doctor Who art by Amy Crook

Everyone needs a tiny TARDIS in their lives, don’t they? This one is rocketing through the wibbly wobbly timey wimey spaces between possibilities. It looks pretty turbulent, with streaks of blue and green and strange stars of sparkling salt all around.

One problem with painting in gorgeous bright, clear blues is that they get a bit muddled by my scanner, but you can see the contrast in the piece much more clearly above. The TARDIS floats alongside sparkling salt and strange shapes, with the Doctor and perhaps even a Companion or two tucked safely inside.

Below, the painting hangs out in a frame, safe from the forces of time and space. For now.

The TARDIS has Minions

The TARDIS has Minions, Doctor Who parody art by Amy Crook

“I hate it when the TARDIS gets minions.”
Doctor Who parody art by Amy Crook

I’ve been all about Despicable Me the past few weeks, as anyone who knows me in real life can attest, so I’m letting the Minions invade my art as well! I just really wanted to draw David Tennant’s crazy hair and particular posture as he surveyed the Minions infecting his poor TARDIS, so I gave the tenth Doctor a handful of Minions to deal with.

I’ve got a couple more of these planned, too, and some of the originals might be available in my first monthly shop opening. And I really need to think of a better name for that little 8-day window of new art. Mini-Shows? Pop-Up Gallery? It’s a work in progress.

I’m keeping up with my plan to post one new card to my Etsy shop a week, and while I’m not sure what occasion this is for, I can guarantee it’ll put a smile on the face of the right recipient.

Lunch With a View, Doctor Who fan comic by Amy Crook

Lunch With a View, Doctor Who fan comic by Amy Crook

I rewatched “Dinosaurs on a Spaceship” recently, and I just couldn’t resist the idea of drawing this peaceful moment with Rory’s Dad sitting on the edge of the TARDIS, suspended over Earth, eating his little packed lunch and looking content. He was kind of hard to draw without his very characteristic nose to help me out, but in the end I’m pretty happy with him. The stars are tiny painted dots of silver watercolor, which is the one thing I have that won’t absorb the black marker pigment and turn grey.

Lunch With a View, 5″x7″ pen & ink, Copic marker, and metallic watercolor on paper. On a whim, I also made him available as a blank card on Etsy.

Above, you can see a silly little bottoms-up view of Mr. Williams’ feet dangling off the edge of the TARDIS and over the distant Earth. Below, you can see it in a frame, with my iPhone and my Sonic Screwdriver.

Captain Jack Harkness fan art by Amy Crook

After doing all three of the new Doctors, I decided that Captain Jack Harkness needed a card of his own! It’s sort of a get well card, but could really be used to cheer up anyone who’s a bit down. Just don’t try to use it as a sympathy card.

I did, you will notice, get his cheeky wink this time.

I’ve been meaning to do a Captain Jack Harkness card for ages, and this is not that! This is basically the doodled-up character design I did for him, which I decided to ink and color. I was reminded that this specific paper, which is wonderful for inkjet printing, doesn’t take the markers nearly so well, alas. Still, he looks quite handsome in his not-quite-right coat, heh.

Above, you can see his crooked little smirk and spiky hair up close and personal. I’m amused at how much practice I already have drawing a greatcoat with a turned-up collar, though this one’s double-breasted, so the detailing is more complicated, but I don’t have to ink that wretched fabric texture, so I’m happy. Below, you can see him all framed up and ready to visit his new home.

Sunday Round-Up & Doctor Who Sketch

art things for an art week

art things for an art week

I hope you’re having a lovely Sunday! In case you missed it or just want to revisit, there was art this week. Shocking, I know. Monday started the week off morbidly with a crowned skull, but Tuesday the tentacles were cheerful enough to make up for it. Thursday there was mysterious dark matter, and Friday a spirally drunk lizard came to hang out. Saturday John and Sherlock were late for your birthday, and of course there’s a sketch for today.

The Tenth Doctor went along with someone’s packet of cards to make sure there was no nonsense with them, and they arrived in plenty of time for the festivities.

It's even got a TARDIS moo sticker!
