The Fading Year
Thursday, November 2nd, 2017
A dormant tree twisting up through the fog. A single leaf floating down on the swirling currents, the final breath of the old year. Winter is crisp in the air, breathing down your neck, hiding in the muffling mist.
The season of hot cocoa, warm sweaters, cloudy skies, and chilly nights is upon us, and I’m thrilled! I know other people love the spring and summer, but I’m definitely one for autumn and winter. This painting celebrates that quiet time where one season turns into the other, and the last of the color fades from the world for awhile.

Above, you can see a close-up of the swirling fog and the single red-brown leaf drifting down through it. Below, the painting is framed and sitting in my writing desk, waiting to inspire some introspective spookiness.

Devil and Ghost
Tuesday, September 19th, 2017
Is this where I just admit I have sold a LOT of these chibi commissions lately? But they’re just so fun, I have no regrets.
These are for Halloween, of course! Arthur and Eames from Inception coming back again as the Devil and a ghost. Arthur is smarming it up in his red velvet suit, straightening his cuffs as he leans nonchalantly in wait. Eames is looking extra spiffy floating along in his vintage windowpane check.
And of course on the right I have the little sketch ghost I drew just to test Eames’ colors before the real thing. Boo!
These are drawn as close to a square aspect ratio as possible, so that they work as emoji on Slack. Their adorable 2-head-high chibi style conveys a lot of personality in a tiny space.

Six for Gold
Friday, September 8th, 2017
Six paintings in this series now, amazing! All of the previous ones are in their new homes, but there’s a print set that will bring them all to you. Or, of course, you can take this one home and start your own collection of crows.
The figure in this one is particularly eerie, and the tree is beautifully bent by a wind you can’t see but can only imagine. The crows are weathering the mist with equanimity, waiting to ride the breezes off to wherever they roost.

Above, you can see the eerie little figure waiting beneath the wind-twisted tree. Below, this painting lurks in its frame, a moody little scene just waiting for a wall.

Cataclysm
Thursday, September 7th, 2017
If you’re still having apocalypse feelings, here’s another vision of a terrible future for you!
The shimmering blue moon has a fissure at its heart, and another mysterious light shines through the clouds high above. The skies are charcoal and violet with whatever destruction came through, and the buildings are blackened ruins. Greenery crawls up the sides of some, while others still smoke or are ochre with rust.
Whatever city used to stand here, there’s not much left.

Cataclysm, detail, by Amy Crook
Above, you can see a close-up of the ruined gherkin building, and the iridescent paint on both it and the moon adding just a bit of light in the smoky darkness. Below, the painting sits in its frame looking innocuously non-prophetic.
