French Arthur, Inception parody art by Amy Crook

French Arthur, 7″x5″ pen & ink and Copic marker on paper

For this second set, my patron wanted an artist Eames since we have so many writing/working emoji (and we have a LOT). Neither of us could resist the idea of Arthur in the “draw me like one of your French girls” meme pose, so that became the model. No logic explains why I drew them backwards on the page, though, sigh.

Whatever it is you need to be encouraged to do, Arthur’s telling you to go for it.

These are drawn as close to a square aspect ratio as possible, so that they work as emoji on Slack. Their adorable 2-head-high chibi style conveys a lot of personality in a tiny space.

Before His First Cup, James Bond parody art by Amy Crook

Before His First Cup, 7″x5″ pen & ink and Copic marker on paper

There’s yet more Slack emoji this week!

We do a lot of sprinting or Pomodoro or 20/10s or whatever you want to call them on our Slack channel, where a group of people write or draw or work or clean for a set time period and come back and cheer each other on for their progress. Q is adding to the amazing variety of emoji we have for signalling the start of those sprints, and Bond is just there to provide tea.

After all, Q can do more damage in his pyjamas before his first cup of Earl Grey than Bond can do in a year, if he puts his mind to it.

These are drawn as close to a square aspect ratio as possible, so that they work as emoji on Slack. Their adorable 2-head-high chibi style conveys a lot of personality in a tiny space.

Bear and Alphie

Bear and Alphie, pet portraits by Amy Crook

Bear and Alphie, 7″x5″ pen & ink and Copic marker on paper

Bear is a big, old dog and the third puppy to get his portrait done for Courtney! And to finish up  the quartet we have her own cat, Alphie. We decided to draw him as a happy murder baby, despite being asleep in nearly all the photos she sent me. You can practically see his butt wiggle!

Doing caricatures of pets is an interesting exercise! I exaggerated Alphie’s ears and Bear’s big head, and made the body rounder for the kitty, but smaller for the big puppy.

Tails both have the requisite amount of floof, however.

My commissions queue is jam-packed right now, but if you’re interested in reserving a spot drop me a line!

Indigo and Ciara

Indigo and Ciara, pet portraits by Amy Crook

Indigo and Ciara, 7″x5″ pen & ink and Copic marker on paper

These two adorable puppies are part of my recent foray into pet portraiture!

Indigo and Ciara are buddies, and so they got paired up on the same page. They’re each drawn to fit inside a 3″x3″ square, just like the chibis from earlier, only this time it’s cute doggos instead of people!

Courtney sent me several pictures of each of them, and then we chatted about what poses to put everyone in. She’s especially fond of Ciara’s cocked head, and Indigo’s cute little puppy grin.

They’re good dogs, Brent.

Exploring by Amy Crook

Exploring, 6″x6″ pen & ink and watercolor on Fluid watercolor paper

Through the fantastic foliage, the tiger stalks its prey. Or that’s what this adventurous tabby cat is imagining. Colored-ink lines give a cartoonish appearance that’s meant to evoke a Disneyish feel (though Disney is usually a bit more coy about cat butt).

If you’ve ever met a cat, you know this is a very common view, however, and soon enough it becomes commonplace. The real question isn’t about the end of the cat facing us, but where the other end is headed off to and what it will find it its explorations.

Above, you can see the lovely details of ink lines and watercolor shading on the foreground foliage. Below, the kitty is in a frame, to be viewed as though through a cat door as it heads out on its adventure.

Vine Ring

Vine Ring by Amy Crook

Vine Ring, 5″x7″ pen & ink and Copic marker on paper

The third book in my Consulting Magic series is imminent! This beautiful vine ring will be part of the cover, the same way that the mechanical bird graced the first one, and magical flowers the second.

Gold and platinum vines twine around each other, thick and thin, in a graceful and organic pattern. Bright emeralds dot the design here and there, cradled in little curls of metal so their placement looks natural.

It could almost be a circlet or crown rather than a ring, whatever your imagination desires.

Dancing Dalek

Dancing Dalek, Doctor Who parody art by Amy Crook

Dancing Dalek, 5″x7″ pen & ink and Copic marker on paper

Feeling in a party mood? Celebrate! Celebrate! Celebrate!

This dancing Dalek is perhaps also a bit drunk, as he meanders through the world ordering others to join in his celebration. Perfect for birthday festivities, or any other excuse you might have to, well, you know.

I have, of course, made it into a card! It’s blank inside, but I admit I was thinking of birthdays when I drew it.
