Cheshire Catnap by Amy Crook

Cheshire Catnap by Amy Crook

Caturday is the perfect day to give yourself a catnap.

This fuzzy Cheshire Cat is just in it for the naps, much like every other cat I’ve ever met. His floof has floof, and one can only imagine the grin on him when he’s awake.

Where do you need a little bit of wonderland in your life? This kitty would be great in a bedroom or nursery, soothing someone to join him in sleep.

Purr.

Cat Naps by Amy Crook

Cat Naps by Amy Crook

Cats! Lazy, languid, liquid cats. I first explored this idea in a sketchy little bookmark, but of course with only room for three poses it wasn’t nearly enough.

I took inspiration from my own ridiculous pets, Belladonna and Pod, and of course the many cats on the internet.

I have trouble choosing a favorite — what’s yours?

Above, you can see a close up of the fine brush work on this sleeping kitty, rich with texture despite the minimalist design. Below, you can see the piece in a frame, just waiting to add some extra kitty zen to your life.

Cuppa Curiosity by Amy Crook

Cuppa Curiosity by Amy Crook

Continuing the series, I have another cheerful, illustrative cup of tea.

Curiosity killed the cat, but satisfaction brought him back. This adorable little black cat cup has a tail for a handle, a pair of sugar mice for sweetness, and a friendly bee resting on his nose. His green eye and the golden bee both have a bit of metallic gold paint on them to add shine to this adorable illustration.

You’re Not Planning to Wear This, Are You?

You're Not Planning to Wear This, Are You? by Amy Crook

You’re Not Planning to Wear This, Are You? by Amy Crook

This dark-eyed beauty is just making sure that you weren’t going to actually try to wear the garment she’s laying on. Or, if you were, that it has the requisite quantity of cat hair on it.

This loose watercolor captures the regal essence of a cat determined to be queen of the world without regard for what the staff thinks. The soft tortoiseshell coloring contrasts beautifully with the turquoise garment, and there’s a touch of pale blue in the background that’s hard to see in reproductions.

You’re Not Planning to Wear This, Are You?, 6″x4″ watercolor on Fluid watercolor paper.

Lucky Podsworth by Amy Crook

Lucky Podsworth by Amy Crook

It’s Friday the 13th, and Pod wanted to have his portrait painted, from his tentacle tail to his pink jellybean toes. He’s feeling very elegant and refined here, so clearly I’ve taken liberties.

I put him on a card with the message, “Make Your Own Luck.” I felt like in this picture he was saying something rather superior, so you can add whatever tone pleases you.

The Orange Ones Are Poison

The Orange Ones Are Poison by Amy Crook

The Orange Ones Are Poison by Amy Crook, 10 in. x 8 in. Japanese watercolor on Japanese paper

The reference is, of course, from a ridiculous internet meme.

The original, in all its cat meme glory.

Above, you can see the image that inspired the caption, though I will admit I already had the silly yellow cat. Below, you can see a close up of his face and the bright orange-red “mouse’ toy by his head.

And finally, you can see it in a frame, next to a suspiciously orange octopus plushie. I recommend not eating the toy, just to be safe.

Weeble Basement Cat cartoon by Amy Crook

Weeble Basement Cat by Amy Crook

Not my usual weeble, but I was inspired by this lolcat to draw my own version of a Basement Cat. What can I say, I spend all day on the internet. At least it’s not Nyancat.
