My wonderful patron from New Zealand, Caroline, commissioned this little comic for her housemate for Christmas, and I’m finally getting around to posting it.

If you’re not familiar with The Thick of It, it’s the show Peter Capaldi was most famous for before he agreed to become the Twelfth Doctor on Doctor Who. Or thirteenth. Or possibly fourteenth. I’m not super clear on that part… Anyway, Malcolm Tucker is the character well known for his incredibly creative and prolific swearing, which is extra hilarious since it’s a show about the inner workings of British politics.

Malcolm’s bollocking face is straight from the show.

The original is, obviously, safely in the hands of its happy recipient, but Caroline’s given me permission to make it into a greeting card for your most swear-happy friends.

You make my heart bigger on the inside - a TARDIS Valentine by Amy Crook

“You make my heart bigger on the inside.”
a TARDIS Valentine by Amy Crook

It’s not actually all that Valentine-y on the outside, but the card says, “You make my heart bigger on the inside.” And that’s a very loving sort of sentiment, don’t you think?

You can get the card in my Etsy shop. Ooh, shiny!

Awwwww.

Wibbly Wobbly Timey Wimey, Doctor Who art by Amy Crook

Everyone needs a tiny TARDIS in their lives, don’t they? This one is rocketing through the wibbly wobbly timey wimey spaces between possibilities. It looks pretty turbulent, with streaks of blue and green and strange stars of sparkling salt all around.

Wibbly Wobbly Timey Wimey, 4″x6″ pen & ink, salt and watercolor on Arches cover white paper.

One problem with painting in gorgeous bright, clear blues is that they get a bit muddled by my scanner, but you can see the contrast in the piece much more clearly above. The TARDIS floats alongside sparkling salt and strange shapes, with the Doctor and perhaps even a Companion or two tucked safely inside.

Below, the painting hangs out in a frame, safe from the forces of time and space. For now.

Lunch With a View, Doctor Who fan comic by Amy Crook

Lunch With a View, Doctor Who fan comic by Amy Crook

I rewatched “Dinosaurs on a Spaceship” recently, and I just couldn’t resist the idea of drawing this peaceful moment with Rory’s Dad sitting on the edge of the TARDIS, suspended over Earth, eating his little packed lunch and looking content. He was kind of hard to draw without his very characteristic nose to help me out, but in the end I’m pretty happy with him. The stars are tiny painted dots of silver watercolor, which is the one thing I have that won’t absorb the black marker pigment and turn grey.

Lunch With a View, 5″x7″ pen & ink, Copic marker, and metallic watercolor on paper. On a whim, I also made him available as a blank card on Etsy.

Above, you can see a silly little bottoms-up view of Mr. Williams’ feet dangling off the edge of the TARDIS and over the distant Earth. Below, you can see it in a frame, with my iPhone and my Sonic Screwdriver.

Eleven’s 1100

Eleven's 1100, Doctor Who fan art by Amy Crook

Eleven’s 1100, Doctor Who fan art by Amy Crook

The Doctor is unimpressed with boring human age-related angst as well, because it’s a good time to be drawing birthday card art. He’s lived over 1100 years! He’s got his trusty TARDIS to keep him company, anyway, and a bowtie. Bowties are cool.

Eleven’s 1100, 5″x7″ pen & ink and Copic marker on paper, nfs (sold). He’s still available as a card in my Etsy shop.

Above, you can see the sun washing the Doctor red and blue, but bringing out his cheekbones in sharp relief. Below, he’s hanging out in his frame with his TARDIS and a random cephalopod.

Fantastic, Doctor Who art by Amy Crook

Fantastic, Doctor Who art by Amy Crook

After drawing Ten and Eleven, I couldn’t resist adding the short-lived Ninth Doctor to the mix. Although I’ve hardly seen any of the classic Doctor Who, I’ve really enjoyed the new series, though I always seem to prefer whichever doctor was last for about a series and a half before I become really fond of the current doctor.

Of course, I also made a greeting card of the Ninth Doctor, with your choice of messages inside.

Hello, Sexy! parody Doctor Who fan art by Amy Crook

Hello, Sexy! parody Doctor Who fan art by Amy Crook

Hello, Sexy – Happy New Year! It might seem a little early to start thinking about Valentine’s Day and ways to express your adoration, but trust me, it’ll sneak right up on you in six short weeks. To help alleviate that “how did it get to be February” panic, I’ve got a whole week of Valentine (and unValentine) designs for you, all of which are perfectly good at showing affection (or loathing, in Snape’s case) any other time of the year as well.

Doctor Who is kicking off the week, with the Eleventh Doctor in his bowtie and fez. As we all know from watching The Doctor’s Wife, his secret name for the TARDIS is “Sexy,” though you can offer the sentiment to the geek guy or girl of your choice.

Hello, Sexy! 5″x7″ pen & ink and Copic markers on paper, original nfs (sold).
