Armor in His Bones
Thursday, September 5th, 2019
I admit, I just have Marvel on my mind lately. Although he already got his piece in the other series, I had to do a second homage to my problematic fave.
In the comics, when Tony Stark makes himself nanite armor, it lives in the hollows of his bones rather than separate from himself. When this morbid image came to mind, the name slipped in right along with it.
The blue arc-reactor glow at the center of the skeleton’s chest matches its nebula-like halo, while the face and repulsor-swoosh bring the full Iron Man armor to mind.
Above, you can see the arc-reactor’s blue glow and the gold-titanium mask above it. Below, the painting is in a temporary frame, waiting to fly to its new home.

Marvel

After the success of Thirteen, a lovely patron suggested that Captain Marvel’s uniform might do well with the same treatment, and I couldn’t help but agree.
Dark red and navy blue hide under the soft pattering rain of brighter colors, giving depth to the fields of rich color. Bright metallic golds layer over softer burnt orange in a familiar pattern, a bit less abstract than the Doctor’s sweater but still with that feeling of calling up an idea as much as a character or film.
What do you marvel at, my darling readers?
Aboe, you can see the shimmering two-tone gold and the richly textured mix of watercolors. below, the painting is in a frame for the moment, waiting to fly to its new home.

Concentric 4

Shining pearls of liquid color float atop a violet fog in concentric rings of blues, greens, and purples. This small abstract catches the light beautifully, fireworks blossoming in front of a cloudy twilight sky.
This addition to the Concentric series emphasizes the jewel-like quality of the metallic paints, each dot forming a shining cabochon that floats atop the dusty purple, blue, and teal of the background, which ironically is actually made of real ground minerals.
This beauty was claimed by one of my Patreon patrons the moment they saw it, so exciting!
Above, you can see the rich range of shining metallics like fireworks against the soft, foggy natural blues and greens. Below, the painting has taken temporary residence in a frame before it heads off to New York.

Blues are bursting on the scene! From a shimmering emerald to a rich sapphire to a soft barely-there hint of lapis, this painting is filled with bejeweled beauty.
These are very meditative, and there’s a tiny spiral at the heart of each burst this time around to help draw in the eye and start the journey through the mandala-like shapes.
Where do you need a bit of of a calming influence in your space?
Above, you can see the way the bursts of color shift and shine in the light. Below, this painting looks lovely in a small black frame, just waiting to bring joy to someone’s home. Maybe yours!

Concentric 3

Another Concentric abstract this time, one that holds some of the meditative quality of its creation.
This one sparkles in every layer, from the tiny chips of amethyst in the background depths, to the mix of shimmery special effects paints used in the foreground. The final effect is like fireworks against a violet, star-speckled sky, brightening the room with their shine.
Above, you can see a small section of the firework-like bursts of concentric rings. Below, the painting sits in a frame, resting before its trip to its new home.

Sardines

Monterey Bay Aquarium has a room where you can stand and watch sardines endlessly dance in circles around you, living flashes of silver in a meditative display.
The thick, buff-colored paper supports a brilliant turquoise ink wash with the perfect amount of watery softness to its shapes. Layers of abstract fish shine out of the blue in shade of silver that catch the light.
An infinite loop of motion and life!
Above you can see the abstract fishies up close, all light and shadow and overlapping motion. Below, the painting is in its tank, er, frame, on its way to its new home.
