Bee of Whimsy sketch by Amy Crook
This whimsical little bee is quite fashionable in his hat, scarf, gloves and boots. He’s out getting a bit of pollen for the hive, but just because he’s working doesn’t mean he can’t be dapper.

Moon Dark

Moon Dark by Amy Crook
I really love how stark and simple this piece is. I was tempted to add more color to it, but in the end I think the copper moon and golden, salt-haoled stars are best on their own. In a simple black frame, it’s really striking, a slice of night for a desk, wall or bedside table.

Moon Dark, detail, by Amy Crook
Here you can see how the salt picked up a tiny bit of the iridescence from the paint, though mostly it sparkles all on its own.

Weeble Buddha Rubs His Own Belly for Luck by Amy Crook
This jolly little brush-pen Buddha is rubbing his own belly, that’s how lucky he feels! He’d invite you to rub with him, but he’s afraid you’d get fingerprints on your monitor.

Cthulhu with a Kitten sketch by Amy Crook
Another little Coloring Book doodle! Cthulhu is quite dubious that he’s not supposed to eat the kitten, but I’m sure he’ll come around.
Happy New Year!

Ninja at Night
Thursday, December 29th, 2011
Another gift painting, this one by request, sort of, from the person who bought me the Japanese watercolor set for my birthday. After seeing the raised, opaque way it dried on my two Radial Symmetry paintings, he mentioned that he’d like to see how black-on-black would look, and thus, a ninja crept into being.

M is for Mycroft by Amy Crook
The wonderful person who bought my other two Baker Street Tinies Edward Gorey/Sherlock pastiche pieces decided her collection wasn’t complete without Mycroft Holmes and DI Lestrade in the mix. This is the first of two more images she’s commissioned to match the first two, with yet more painstaking crosshatching. Mycroft takes directly after E is for Ernest in the original books, though the bell has become a Blackberry, and his faithful umbrella snuck its way into the picture.
I highly recommend clicking to see the image larger, if only so you can appreciate my absurdly painstaking work. Once Lestrade is done, I’ll have cards and prints available in my Etsy shop.
M is for Mycroft, 8.5″x5.5″ pen and ink on paper, sold.

And here we’re back to coloring book doodles for Saturday, heh. Zombie Santa has a big sack of brains for the nice undead hordes. The naughty ones get shotgunned.
