Forgiveness by Amy Crook, abstract art in the Aglow series quoting Desmond Tutu

Forgiveness, 12″x12″ watercolor on paper

Desmond Tutu wrote an entire book titled No Future Without Forgiveness, and the title resonated with the soft, earthy swirls of this painting. There’s two different pieces in my Aglow series this month, and this one called out for a quote about forgiveness to float atop the warm spiral.

A patron commented that it looked like milk being stirred into tea, which fits perfectly with the feeling of warmth and care — for oneself, for others, for the world — that I had hoped to convey.

Be Kind

Be Kind by Amy Crook, abstract art with word art text

Be Kind, 8″x8″ watercolor on paper

The second new painting in my Aglow series this month, this one’s got a quote from another wonderful human being who inspires us to be better humans — Mr. Rogers.

There are three ways to ultimate success: The first way is to be kind. The second way is to be kind. The third way is to be kind.

The message was shortened for this small painting, but still contains his threefold wisdom: be kind. be kind. be kind.

Concentric 2

Concentric 2 by Amy Crook, abstract art in pale grey and vanishing violet

Concentric 2, 7″x5″ ink and watercolor on paper

Pale, pale, and bright spots of gold.

The soft grey ink wash provides a swirling backdrop to concentric rings of near-invisible violet, the designs only showing up when the light hits them just so. A bright, warm gold is scattered among the rest, like sunshine throwing physical droplets into a cool, rainy puddle.

Frame this little painting and put it on your desk, and you can always have a bit of secret shine to take a break and meditate on the hidden beauties of the world.

A Bumble of Bees

A Bumble of Bees by Amy Crook, 17 bees with iridescent wings bumble around a background of abstract hydrangeas

A Bumble of Bees, 12″x6″ watercolor on Fluid watercolor paper

BEES!

There’s even a cute little bumblebee butt diving into one of these elegantly abstract hydrangeas, iridescent wings folded atop its tubby body.

These delightful busybodies are bumbling around a profusion of flowers, dipping their toes and faces alike into the blue blossoms. From their black stripes and fat yellow bodies to the shimmering white wings, these little gals exude the warmth of summer just in time for it to fade away.

Saffron Moon

Wednesday, October 3rd, 2018

Saffron Moon by Amy Crook, an abstract watercolor with a golden yellow circle against blue-black

Saffron Moon, 12″x12″ watercolor on Fluid watercolor paper

The barely-blue of midnight impinges on the strange saffron swirls of this big, beautiful moon. Neither abstract nor fully realistic, but a blend of both that evokes a feeling of mystery and possibility, perfect for October people.

If you make your home in the harvests and haystacks, between the pumpkins and the fallen leaves, then perhaps this would fit right in with the decor.

What’s your favorite season?

Above, you can see one of the intricate little edge details where the midnight mist creeps into the gold of the shining moon. Below, this larger art is awaiting a frame big enough, holding a spot in pride of place at my writing desk.
