Concupiscient, word art by Amy Crook

Concupiscient: filled with sexual desire; lustful,
5″x7″ pen & ink and Copic marker on paper

Word art abounds! Kim asked for “concupiscient” as her Patreon patron sketch this month, and since I know she loves Lestrade I couldn’t resist giving him this naughty cameo.

Patreon patrons help pay for art supplies, cat food, and caffeine for the artist, and get great perks like sketches and wallpapers for their ongoing support. Become a patron today!

Two Modes of Cat: Rambunctious Fuckery and Rest, cat sketches by Amy Crook

Two Modes of Cat: Rambunctious Fuckery (bottom) and Rest (top),
brush pen sketches on bookmarks with brush and ink embellishment

I actually have four Patreon patron sketches to do this month, but the first two went together so well I did them as a set. I feel like this is part of an endless cycle, play, sleep, play, sleep, with food taking up some space in there as well.

The top one is drawn with my trusty ink-filled water brush, and the bottom uses another brush pen, plus some diluted amber ink for the embellishments, and a few red dots to amuse myself (and the cats).

Avada Kedavra, word art bookmark by Amy Crook

Avada Kedavra, word art bookmark by Amy Crook

I didn’t have a ton of patrons who were around this month, they’re all out in the summer getting sunshine and other things I’m allergic to!

They did have these two requests, though, first for Avada Kedavra, the Slytherin’s favorite spell. It’s got a shiny green paint and some contrasting green glitter gel pen to give it a lovely magical feel on this black bookmark.

The second, below, was for Lestrade from Sherlock in glasses. He ended up being caught unexpectedly on a sleepy morning, wearing his glasses and reading the paper in his pjs.

Goldilocks

Goldilocks, watercolor by Amy Crook

Goldilocks, 8″x10″ watercolor on watercolor paper

The collector that bought Mercy House thought it had a Three Bears feel to it, and asked for a Goldilocks commission to go with it. It has the same feeling of abstract greenery, but shot through this time with light instead of darkness, the gold of the girl’s hair bouncing around her in sunlight among the leaves as she strolls through the forest. Everything has a soft, surreal feeling to it, suitable to this classic fairy tale.

Ambivalence

Ambivalence, Doctor Who word art by Amy Crook

Ambivalence: mixed feelings,
7″x5″ brush pen, pen & ink, and Copic marker on paper

Another Patreon sketch, today we have some mixed feelings about bow ties. Are they really cool? Eleven isn’t so certain, but his confidence will perk up again soon, I have no doubt. Perhaps the TARDIS will reassure him once it arrives on the scene.

Palimpsest

Palimpsest, word art by Amy Crook

Palimpsest: something reused or altered but still bearing traces of its earlier form,
7″x5″ pen & ink and Sharpie marker on recycled artwork

This week’s word art is a request from Kim, one of my lovely Patreon supporters. As soon as I saw her request, I actually went and washed an old piece of art I wasn’t happy with, getting most of the paint off but leaving the ghostly blue world behind. Paper doesn’t recycle quite as well as parchment, but there wasn’t too much blurring with the strong Sharpie marker, though you can see some in the green vines on the upper left there.

If you’d like to see your own favourite word reinterpreted, consider becoming a patron! For a mere $5 you could get your request fulfilled.

May Patreon sketches & a bit of word art

Tuesday, May 31st, 2016

This past Wednesday was a bit of a madhouse, and this next one might be worse. My roommate of 9 years is moving out, and someone new is moving in! I’m very grateful to have found someone so fast (as is my old roomie, who got to squeak out with less than a month’s notice), but it’s going to be a lot of changes. The first of which is a small raise in my rent, sigh!

Do consider supporting my art on Patreon and optionally getting sketches of your own, assuming that my art is something enjoy and support!

Inception quote word art by Amy Crook

Don’t be afraid to dream a little bigger, darling.

In lieu of doing my own word art live on Periscope, I did this little quote from Inception while watching someone else’s Periscope. Perisception, or something.

Knitting sketch for CC

Knitting sketch for CC

This is sort of a study for a larger piece of art. It’s interesting trying to google people knitting, because in half the photos you can tell it’s just a model holding the needles attractively instead of actually knitting.

there is no explanation for this

“Gollum with the good hair” for Jeff’s bizarre prompt

Gollum is saying, “Precious is back from the tasty orange munchie mans… And some new hair!” I have basically no excuse for this one, but it’s definitely Jeff’s fault.

sketchy spring cuppa for Kim

“A cup of tea for Spring” for Kim

So let’s conclude with a lovely little cup of wildflowers, a bright breath of spring after the foreverness of winter this year.

Have a lovely short holiday week, for those of you who got Monday off!
