Morning Kiss
Tuesday, January 19th, 2016
A lovely patron asked me to do a number of commissions for her, and this one got moved to the top of the pile in order to make it available as a Valentine!
She wanted a sweet morning moment, of Bond is just his pj bottoms and Q in cute sleep shorts, with James bringing his Quartermaster his first cup of Earl Grey. And, of course, giving him a kiss on the cheek.
Cutie pies.

Candles Make it More Romantic
Thursday, January 14th, 2016
When Sherlock finally decided to go all-out for John and put candles on the table, he really put candles on the table. He starts to say, “I might have gone a bit…” but John interrupts with, “Angelo was right, Candles do make the table more romantic.”
A wonderful card for a Valentine or year round to show how nice it is to be loved just as you are.

Ghost
Tuesday, December 8th, 2015
What haunts you?
The inspiration from this image came from dozens of images of ghosts over many years. The faces pushing through the wall in Frighteners. Photographs of sheets with a vague sense of a human underneath that clearly show there is no one. The classic Halloween costume of a sheet with eye holes.
This ink is a beautiful pale grey with ghostly lavender undertones that worked perfectly to created the subtle shadows in this piece. Is it just a bunch of shapes, or is there really a face? Is that shadows against a wall, or is it really reaching out for you?
Ghost, 5″x7″ ink wash on paper.
Above, you can see the detail of his serious, ghostly face. Below, he’s trapped in a frame, just waiting to spook up the right house.

Tree Trimming
Monday, October 19th, 2015
Cthulhu is getting into the holiday spirit a little early this year! He’s trimming his tree with his favorite decoration, cultists. Even the tree is enjoying its little holiday snack, er, decor.
The greeting card will bring just the right holiday cheer to the right person — a fan of horror, especially the Lovecraftian sort, with a good sense of humor.

Morpheus
Thursday, October 8th, 2015
This is the Morpheus that knew Nada in the time before, that loved and wronged her and sent her to Hell for refusing him. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, you clearly need to get to a comic shop or library and start reading The Sandman.
This didn’t start out as a Sandman piece, but the face was hiding among the abstract shapes like a dream that only needs a little prodding to take proper shape in your mind. Minimal alteration brought out the eye and added in the glimmer, highlighted the nose and crying mouth, the sharp jaw, and the delicate curl of an ear. The mad curls and shocked expression were there already, just waiting to be found.
Morpheus, 10″x8″ watercolor and duochrome watercolor on Arches cover white paper, $349.
Above, you can see the beautiful, organic shapes hiding in the larger face of the painting. Below, Morpheus is trapped in his frame, waiting to be freed.

Congratulations, Ellen

I finished this commission this month for someone who wanted NuTrek Spock as a congratulations gift for a friend. This is what she had to say about it in her review:
When my friend passed the CPA exam I knew the occasion called for something special. Since one of the things we’ve bonded over was our mutual love of sci-fi movies a commissioned piece from Amy seemed like the way to go. First off, Amy is an absolute delight to work with. She responded to all of my emails quickly and was enthusiastic to collaborate. She let me know what was happening every step of the way from idea, to sketch, to color. The end result of her creativity was, as always, a quality product. I couldn’t be happier with my commission and I will definitely be buying from her again! Thanks, Amy!

If you’d like to commission a comic as a gift (or for yourself!), you can get the details here.
Congratulations, Ellen, 5″x7″ pen & ink and Copic marker on paper.

Periscope
Monday, September 21st, 2015
What’s Periscope, you might ask?
- Periscope is an app (owned by Twitter) that lets you make live videos with your phone.
- Periscope videos (or scopes) last 24 hours before they vanish forever.
- I have Periscope set to tweet when I’m on live.
- You can watch on the app or on the web, including the replay (for as long as it lasts).
- You don’t have to make videos to have an account and watch them.
- You can text chat to the person making the video, share the video on Twitter, and give them “hearts” by tapping on the screen during the live feed.
- Yes, it’s yet another form of social media.
- Kind of like Youtube and Snapchat had a baby and sold it to Twitter.
- But I actually really like it.
- My username is, predictably, amysnotdeadyet.
I’m using it to make art! Or, well, to let you watch me make art. I painted the little hummingbird sketch above live on Periscope the other day, and below there’s two more things that owe their lives to me wanting to draw something on Periscope.
Well, actually Eames and Arthur (above) owe their existence in part to Periscope, and in part to wanting to work on their character design for a commission. But the merdude below was one of my first Periscope experiments!
You can see at the top of the page I wrote, “Hi! I can’t see you chat,” because when I’m drawing or painting the phone is up over my shoulder and, like everything on Periscope, the chats are ephemeral and disappear before I can go looking.
I’m amysnotdeadyet on Periscope — come say hi!
