Dragon Egg, tiny art by Amy Crook

Dragon Egg, 5″x5″ watercolor on paper

This little egg is just starting to crack, its surface full of rough spirals and gradations in color. If you’re wondering what hatches out of such an egg, you can just keep scrolling and see the magnificent spiral purple dragon that it will grow into.

This lovely egg is a symbol of possibility, of potential getting ready to unfold, of something that’s almost done germinating and is ready to break out into the world

What else do you have in your life that’s like that, and how can you nuture it?

Above, you can see the soft textures of paint and paper, just two colors of minerals to make up this whimsical image. Below, the egg is waiting in a frame to incubate and hatch whatever’s inside.

Moon Dog

Moon Dog, watercolor art by Amy Crook

Moon Dog, 12″x9″ watercolor on Strathmore watercolor paper

This whimsical puppy is playing fetch with the moon. He has a belly full of stars and wide, liquid eyes, and just wants to bring something beautiful into your life.

The moon and stars have a shine to them of gold and silver paint, and there’s a nebula of splashing paint all around this moon dog.

This is a somewhat larger painting, and would look beautiful matted and framed in a child’s room.

You Made Me Ink, octopus art by Amy Crook

You Made Me Ink, 5″x7″ ink on paper

An octopus swims upward from a cloud of ink, the murky water obscuring its form as it rises toward the bright surface above.

This ink painting has beautiful sparkle and shine, and amazing color variation despite being done in only two colors of ink. The deep teal has gold flecks in it, and turns red where it’s dried thickly on the page; the soft grey of the octopus chases it away and brings back the lightness of the paper, adding its own warmer hues in the process.

Above, you can see the glittering gold, mysterious red, and soft, watery grey of the in on the page, settling into the grooves as it will. Below, this octopus is grooving in a frame, like your own little still tank of exotic waters.

Tuesday, October 10th, 2017

October is here, and with it comes cool winds, crunchy leaves, and ink art! There is an official prompt list, which I followed for exactly one day, oops. Instead, I’m concentrating on drawing things that make me happy this time around, with a side of clearing out my daunting commissions queue, so expect a hodgepodge of whatever mood strikes me throughout the month.

Six for Gold

Six for Gold, small watercolor painting by Amy Crook

Six for Gold, 6″x6″ watercolor on Fluid watercolor paper

Six paintings in this series now, amazing! All of the previous ones are in their new homes, but there’s a print set that will bring them all to you. Or, of course, you can take this one home and start your own collection of crows.

The figure in this one is particularly eerie, and the tree is beautifully bent by a wind you can’t see but can only imagine. The crows are weathering the mist with equanimity, waiting to ride the breezes off to wherever they roost.
