Graduating is Cool, a Doctor Who commission by Amy Crook

Graduating is Cool, a Doctor Who commission by Amy Crook

This was also a commission, by the coolest Aunt in the world, for her niece that’s going into fashion design in the fall. The bright purple of the original is, as always, hard to reproduce on the computer, but the Doctor is all kitted up for the ceremony, including a proper tassel on his (very cool) fez!

Want a little Doctor of your own? You can commission art for yourself or a friend!

Graduating is Cool, 5″x7″ pen & ink and Copic marker on paper.

In or Out, Doctor Who parody art by Amy Crook

In or Out, Doctor Who parody art by Amy Crook

Peter Capaldi is most famous in England for his role as the foul-mouthed Malcolm Tucker in The Thick of It — or at least he was, until he got cast as the twelfth Doctor. We haven’t seen anything about him except his costume, and August refuses to hurry here, so this bit of Doctor Who fan art uses a quote from Malcolm’s mouth.

This art was a commission for one of my favorite patrons, but she’s kindly allowed me to put them on cards for my Etsy shop, so you can enjoy some sweary twelfth Doctor of your very own!

Short Friend

Short Friend, a Sherlock parody comic by Amy Crook

Short Friend, a Sherlock parody comic by Amy Crook

Sherlock apparently underestimates John’s height and level of jaundice in this silly little Despicable Me crossover. He tells the audience, “I took the precaution of a long* coat and a short friend,” while gesturing to the wrong short friend. Poor John!

Well, perhaps Sherlock will remember this next time he wants some tea and John pretends he can’t hear him.

Short Friend, 5″x7″ pen & ink and Copic marker on paper. Available as a blank card on Etsy, of course.

* I know, I know, the quote is “good coat” but c’mon, this is cuter.

Doctoral, a Doctor Who parody comic by Amy Crook

The Doctor is a doctor! Or at least he has snazzy purple doctoral graduation robes, though he seems to have misplaced his tam. That’s all right, fezzes are cool.

He’s available as a seasonally appropriate graduation card in my Etsy shop, especially good for those brave souls out to get their PhDs.

Fetch the Cultist

Fetch the Cultist, Lovecraft parody art by Amy Crook

Fetch the Cultist,
Lovecraft parody art by Amy Crook

The Hound of Tindalos is one of the most evil, annoying monsters to draw while playing Arkham Horror, and so of course I wanted to draw one being adorable. He’s playing fetch the cultist with Cthulhu! I’m sure the one he’s brought is only slightly chewed.

There’s not actually any real description of the hound in the books, it’s only called that because once it gets a time traveler’s scent, it will follow him through space and time like a hunting hound.

My idea is cuter.

Fetch the Cultist, 5″x7″ pen & ink and Copic marker on paper. You can get him in black & white in my Cthulhu Holiday Fun Book, or pick up the original during May’s Floating Gallery.

Palaloolali! Despicable Me parody art by Amy Crook

Palaloolali!
Despicable Me parody art by Amy Crook

In my continued quest to get ridiculous birthday cards in all my favorite fandoms, I have a Minion for you! He’s either giving you a gift and a banana, or stealing the banana out of your gift — what do you think, sweet or despicable?

For the record, the Minion “translation” is from ye olde googles, so I have no idea if it’s correct or not, but it’s cute so I went with it.

Palaloolali! 5″x7″ pen & ink and Copic marker on paper. The original will be in May’s Floating Gallery, or you can get a card at any time from my Etsy shop.

Headbanging Hair, Daron's Guitar Chronicles art by Amy Crook

Headbanging Hair,
Daron’s Guitar Chronicles art by Amy Crook

I’ve been reading Daron’s Guitar Chronicles for years now, and finally this year for Cecilia Tan’s birthday, Daron got into my head and convinced me to draw a picture of him.  It’s not entirely canon-accurate — the shirt with Ziggy’s handprint is supposed to be a different color, with the handprint in black hair dye, but I liked the red. And the guitar has about as much in common with Daron’s actual guitar as stick figures to humans, so, you know. Although, next time I draw a stringed instrument, I’m going to pull out my tiny Micron pens for the strings, brush pens are just not suited, at least in my wobbly fingers.

DGC is a story about being gay and in the closet in the late ’80s and early ’90s – and a rock star. The second big fat omnibus book is coming out via Kickstarter pretty soon, so if that sounds like something you’d enjoy, you can get both books or just go read it online for free.
