6 sketches for Patreon patrons by Amy Crook, July 2019 requests
More Patreon sketches! I’m all caught up now, so there’ll be another half dozen or so next month, from August’s request post. These are all the size of a trading card – 2.5″x3.5″ – and either of bristol board or watercolor paper.
From the top left we have:
- a little doodle for Corinne’s story,
- Lab Coat Pikachu for Eric,
- Mehdays kitty for Jeff,
- a Carousel Selkie for Rebecca,
- “hurry up autumn!” for Kim,
- and some sunshiney goodness for Roxanne.

After the success of Thirteen, a lovely patron suggested that Captain Marvel’s uniform might do well with the same treatment, and I couldn’t help but agree.
Dark red and navy blue hide under the soft pattering rain of brighter colors, giving depth to the fields of rich color. Bright metallic golds layer over softer burnt orange in a familiar pattern, a bit less abstract than the Doctor’s sweater but still with that feeling of calling up an idea as much as a character or film.

Aboe, you can see the shimmering two-tone gold and the richly textured mix of watercolors. below, the painting is in a frame for the moment, waiting to fly to its new home.

Concentric 6

Concentric 6, 6″x4″ watercolor on paper
Irresistibly textured dots adorn this odd Concentric abstract, the paint a strange beast that shimmers from deep red to metallic green in the light. Made to imitate the oil-slick colors of a scarab, the colors shift from dried blood to old bronze in a manner befitting the gloomy violet-grey fog it’s floating against.
The depths of the purple have their own little sparkle in the brightest sunlight from the amethyst ground up into it, because if one is going to go goth, one might as well go all the way.

Above, you can see the iridescent paint catch the light and even a hint of sparkle in the amethyst. Below, the painting is hiding in a frame, waiting for its chance to shine.

July’s Floating Gallery is CLOSED!

The Floating Gallery has pulled up stakes and drifted off into the sunset!
I hope you enjoyed July’s temporary exhibits, and will be back in September for more. This month’s pieces have been sold or retired to make room for all new art. Join the email list to get an early pass into all the future Floating Galleries.
In the meantime, my Etsy shop is still open, and there will be comics and other, stranger posts here on the blog. You can also support me on Patreon if you want to make sketch requests, get downloads, see pieces as they’re finished, or just feel good about yourself as a patron of the arts!

Sunset Haze

Sunset Haze, 7″x5″ watercolor on paper
It wouldn’t be me if there wasn’t some kind of horizons painting with a fading sunset, flying birds, and silhouetted trees.
I went for a different sort of tree this time, though I couldn’t tell you what kind, and some sea birds for variety as well. The sun is a red haze just vanishing below the horizon, ruddy against the warm buff color of the paper itself.
A tiny bit of exotic warmth for those days the AC is turned to 11 and one is missing the summers of old.
