I Am Not Here to Please You by Amy Crook for The Doubleclicks video

I Am Not Here to Please You, 12″x9″ pen & ink, Copic marker, and watercolor on Strathmore bristol for The Doubleclicks video “Women Know Math”

The Doubleclicks got 50 women and non-binary artists to illustrate their amazing video for Women Know Math, and I got to be part of it! I am absolutely in love with this song, the video, and everything it has to say.

Although they licensed the art for this specific use, the original is up for grabs in all its cat-filled glory. A rare self-portrait by the artist, with special guest appearances by Podsworth and Belladonna, this drawing bursts out of its boundaries with glorious movement and joy.

Above, there is possibly the most accurate drawing I’ve ever made of Belladonna, and some pj pants I only wish I owned. Below, you can see this drawing framed, including the very faint pencil reminder up in the top portion with the text I was meant to using.

Resist & Persist

Resist and She Persisted, defiant word art by Amy Crook

Resist, 6″x4″ ink wash and metallic watercolor on watercolor postcard;
She Persisted, 7″x5″ watercolor and metallic watercolor on paper

I painted these this past week to try out some of my art supplies and I think they both do a good job of what they were meant to do — defy those who wish to shut us up.

Want one of these gorgeous originals?

Normally they’d go for $199 and $249 respectively, but if you make a donation of at least $50 to NAACP, you can keep whichever one you wish.* Help them keep fighting the fight they’ve been fighting for years, email me the receipt, and I’ll get your defiance out to your doorstep.

Both of these have beautiful metallics and sheen to them that’s even more amazing in person. Take them home, donate to a good cause, and make your own resistance that much more beautiful and truthful.

*First come, first snagged. First class shipping is included via letter post, if you want fancier shipping there will be an additional charge for the exact fee.

Tsundoku

Tsundoku, word art by Amy Crook

Tsundoku: the condition of acquiring reading materials but letting them pile up in one’s home without reading them,
5″x7″ brush and J. Herbin 1670 ink on paper

A bit of fancy-ink word art for Kim’s Patreon sketch. I loaded up my lovely J. Herbin 1670 Stormy Grey ink into a water brush and noodled around making a big pile of books for her to not read.

Because obviously I would never do this.*

*by never I mean always, my To Be Read pile will outweigh me when I die

Two Modes of Cat

Two Modes of Cat: Rambunctious Fuckery and Rest, cat sketches by Amy Crook

Two Modes of Cat: Rambunctious Fuckery (bottom) and Rest (top),
brush pen sketches on bookmarks with brush and ink embellishment

I actually have four Patreon patron sketches to do this month, but the first two went together so well I did them as a set. I feel like this is part of an endless cycle, play, sleep, play, sleep, with food taking up some space in there as well.

The top one is drawn with my trusty ink-filled water brush, and the bottom uses another brush pen, plus some diluted amber ink for the embellishments, and a few red dots to amuse myself (and the cats).

Persnickety

Persnickety, word art by Amy Crook

Persnickety: placing too much emphasis on trivial or minor details; fussy,
7″x5″ pen & ink, brush & ink, and pencil on paper

Word Art Wednesday is back after its short break! This was a request from one of my patient Patreon patrons, and I couldn’t resist the urge to get fussy with the drop cap.

What are you persnickety about?

July Patreon Sketches

Avada Kedavra, word art bookmark by Amy Crook

Avada Kedavra, word art bookmark by Amy Crook

I didn’t have a ton of patrons who were around this month, they’re all out in the summer getting sunshine and other things I’m allergic to!

They did have these two requests, though, first for Avada Kedavra, the Slytherin’s favorite spell. It’s got a shiny green paint and some contrasting green glitter gel pen to give it a lovely magical feel on this black bookmark.

The second, below, was for Lestrade from Sherlock in glasses. He ended up being caught unexpectedly on a sleepy morning, wearing his glasses and reading the paper in his pjs.

Support me on Patreon to want to get sketches or word art of your own!
